Chapter 48 what is mercy

In the process of traveling, Miao Xiyong made rapid progress while treating patients while studying. However, the faster he progressed, the more doubts he had in his mind. On the road, he saw the poor life of the people, saw the suffering of people in pain, and saw some doctors blackmailing patients for money while they were sick. What is the human heart like in this world? How on earth can we help people relieve their suffering? Some questions, he didn't fully get the answers from Xu Fuyuan, so these questions were deposited in his heart, waiting for the day when he would get the answers.

That day finally came. Now, no one knows exactly how Miao Xiyong met Master Zibai, so let us imagine it. That day, the trails in the mountains were cool and quiet, and the slender bamboo forests beside the road were dripping with green. Miao Xiyong came all the way, feeling anxious in his heart. The one he was going to meet this time was Zen Master Zhenke, who would later become Master Zibai. In the meditation room, Miao Xiyong finally got to meet this expert. In fact, it is recorded in history that Master Zibai is a very strange person. It is said that he is very vigorous. If the visitor’s heart is not kind and his words are not speculative, he will even pick up a big stick to beat him (with a stick, he almost wants to die Life Root), you said that monks and ordinary people on this road would dare to visit?

However, Master Zi Bai was very polite to Miao Xiyong. Because, he felt Miao Xiyong's kind heart. Miu Xiyong told Master Zibai about his doubts, Zibai smiled slightly after hearing this, and asked Miu Xiyong a question: "You must have heard the story of the eminent monk Xuanzang of the Tang Dynasty, right? " Miao Xiyong nodded: "Yes, I have." Master Zibai went on to say: "Master Xuanzang is also full of doubts in his heart. Why is there so much suffering in this world? He is also in great pain. So, what did he do? He immediately set off to Tianzhu to seek The scriptures, he has gone through untold hardships, crossed deserts and snow-capped mountains on foot, and completed this study with his own beliefs. We don’t care how many people the Buddhist scriptures he translated will benefit, we only look at his actions to learn from the scriptures. Such a big The power of the vow has touched countless people in the world and aroused great kindness in the world."

Miao Xiyong listened carefully to Master Zibai's words and pondered. Master Zibai: "There is indeed a lot of pain and ugliness in this world, but if we just lament the pity of the world and then continue to cultivate ourselves, it is not compassion. The real compassion is to do our best to help the world. This task is difficult to accomplish, but we must make great vows and try our best to do it. Don't care about others, just do it. I believe that one day it will influence the world. Only in this way is true compassion. " Miao Xiyong's heart slowly brightened, and he kept nodding his head.

Master Zibai said again: "You are a doctor and I am a monk, but I hope that we can work together in our respective fields and try our best to do this thing!" Putting his palms together, Miao Xiyong made his promise to Master Zibai: "Zen Master, I will definitely do my best in my life to be a good doctor and help the world!" In this way, the two chatted together for a long time, and their heart to save all sentient beings brought them together. From then on, Miao Xiyong respected Master Zibai as a disciple. Later, Master Zibai made great vows and initiated the creation and engraving of a large collection of square books - "Jiaxing Collection" (the collection of Buddhist classics is called the collection).

This "Jiaxing Tibetan" is not trivial. It has an important position in the Buddhist classics. In addition to collecting the Mahayana and Mahayana scriptures that have been collected in Tibet since the Song and Yuan Dynasties, it also includes a large number of writings by eminent monks in China. These are all included in other historical materials. Hard to see. "Jiaxing Tibetan" is not only a Buddhist collection, but also contains a vast and rich content. It is an indispensable reference book for the study of Chinese Buddhist history and Chinese culture. Master Zibai has immeasurable merit.

During the publication process of this classic, Mu Xiyong was an important sponsor. Documentary records: "The pledged sponsors are Miao Xiyong in Changshu, Yu Yuli in Jintan, He Xueyi in Danyang, Zhou Yi in Wujiang, Shen Yan, etc." Many years later, due to the framing of the eunuchs, Master Zibai was arrested by traitors and thrown into prison before the "Jiaxing Tibetan" was completely published. In the prison, Master Zibai knew that the eunuchs would not let him go. After bathing, recite the Buddha's name, sit upright and melt. This year is the thirty-first year of Wanli (1603).

However, his upright personality and unyielding professionalism inspired generations of successors. After his death, his disciples continued his career. After 120 years, until the early years of the Qing Dynasty, finally Completed this vast Buddhist classic. Master Zibai was known as the Four Great Monks in the late Ming Dynasty. After Master Zibai passed away, Miao Xiyong was so sad that he came to personally bury Master Zibai. Although, in their lives, because they are busy with each other, there are not many opportunities to talk freely like this, but their hearts of saving all sentient beings are always connected.

Later, Miao Xiyong integrated these compassionate spirits into the moral cultivation of doctors, and wrote in the first of the "Five Wishes for Doctors" to doctors: "Being a doctor, taking care of one's life, seeing distress, should be Inspire compassion, examine prescriptions in detail, refine the way of medicine, study and think deeply, and cooperate with each other in the future."
