Chapter 38 road of wind and rain

In fact, in the historical records we usually see, the figures of ancient doctors are very vague, because there are very few records. The doctors we know are only seen through their own records of medical practice experience and medical records. People who really study history can find ancient human customs from the records of these doctors. But I saw the doctor in these records. In these medical records, these characters are vivid and have very different personalities. So, what kind of doctor is Zhu Zhenheng? Due to the outstanding curative effect, many people came to Zhu Zhenheng's home for consultation, and at the same time, many people were invited for consultation.

In ancient times, a doctor’s diagnosis was carried out in this way. He could go to the doctor’s home or consultation room (there were more doctors in the city, such as Ye Tianshi in Suzhou in the Qing Dynasty). If the patient was seriously ill and could not come, he would find someone to inform the doctor , ask the doctor to go to the patient's home to see a doctor, but in fact, in the vast rural areas, such patients account for the majority. So there were three things that doctors at that time couldn't do without, what were they? There are paper lanterns—kept for walking at night; oil umbrellas—to prevent rain on the road; medicine boxes—this is indispensable.By the way, to brag, my grandfather is an old Chinese doctor in the country. He has one thing that others don’t have—I can’t say that, I guess other doctors have it, but no one has recorded it. This thing is a stick. What’s the matter? It is used to fight wolves, because there are wild wolves in the mountains.

In order to treat patients in remote mountain villages, doctors have to cross mountains and ridges, inevitably encountering wild wolves. Zhu Zhenheng also diagnosed patients in this way. It is estimated that his three treasures must be consumed quickly, because the frequency of his outpatient visits is very high, "there is no time for those who are waiting for the disease from all directions." Seeing the phrase "there is no day for those who wait with speed in all directions", such a picture will surely emerge in everyone's mind: sedan chairs parked in front of the luxurious mansion of Zhu Zhenheng's family, Zhu Zhenheng walks out grandly, and then sits Get on a sedan chair and go to each house to see a doctor. This is a famous doctor!

In fact, this is why you don’t understand Zhu Zhenheng. In his whole life, he never lived in a luxurious mansion. He wore extremely simple clothes and “only covered his body” and ate “rough rice with quinoa soup”. It is a typical Confucian image of "Qing Xiu Ku Jie", and its simplicity is comparable to that of Fan Zhongyan, who said in the Song Dynasty that "If you are not a good look, you are a good doctor", the four sons of Fan Zhongyan's family wore a pair of decent trousers. Zhu Zhenheng didn't have that style when he went out to see a doctor. He was there to save lives, so there was no time for style.

This kind of process usually comes from the patient’s home or asks someone to deliver a message. Sometimes they knock on the door in the middle of the night or early in the morning and say: Mr. Zhu, Mr. Zheng from the town of Pujiang Town is sick and has been mad for seven or eight days. It may not work, you go to help to see it. So Zhu Zhenheng and the servant carrying the medicine box set off immediately in the early morning. The servant said: Mr. Zhu, the fog in the morning is cool, let's leave at dawn. Zhu Zhenheng: Don't delay the time. The patient is in pain, and a quarter of an hour is like a year. How can we covet our own comfort and make others suffer? (Sick people live as old as they are, and want to escape themselves?)

Servant: But the mist is really cold, sir, can your body take it? Zhu Zhenheng: Cut a few slices of ginger and put it in your mouth so that we won't get cold. In this way, the master and servant walked on the road full of cold mist with ginger slices in their mouths. The morning stars are still twinkling overhead, people are still sleeping, only a few dogs barking in the distance seem desolate and lonely. What kind of doctor is this? ! Sometimes, when I hear people talking about who is sick, I ask carefully: Who is sick? Passerby A: I heard that Chen Tiejiang's wife in Dongyang Town is ill. She is seriously ill.

Zhu Zhenheng: Why didn't you invite a doctor? Passerby A: Hey, a blacksmith, where can I afford it?Hello, who are you?How can you just leave? Passerby B: You don’t know him yet, he is the famous Dr. Zhu Zhenheng! In front of the dilapidated house of Chen Tiejiang's house in Dongyang. Zhu Zhenheng, covered in dust, knocked on the door. Chen Tiejiang came out unkempt and unkempt. Obviously, his family's illness had tortured him terribly: "Who are you? Did you go to the wrong door?" Zhu Zhenheng: "How is your wife?" Chen Tiejiang: "Ah? You, how do you know? She is going to die!"

Zhu Zhenheng: "I'm a doctor, let me take a look." He said and walked into the room. Chen's wife was lying on the straw mat bed, her face was black, her stomach was distended, and her limbs were as thin as sticks. Looking from a distance, she looked like a ghost. Zhu Zhenheng checked the pulse with his hands, the pulse was fast and astringent, and felt weak when he took it again. He said to Chen Tiejiang: "Your wife is suffering from a disease called bloating. It will take a year to recuperate. You need to use Siwu Decoction with Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, Akebia, Atractylodes macrocephala, tangerine peel, Magnolia officinalis, and ginger to make a soup. I brought some medicine here and gave it to you, after you finish taking it, you can go to Yiwu to get the medicine from Dr. Zhu Zhenheng's house, and you don't need to pay any more."

Then tell the sick woman to take good care of her and leave. Chen Tiejiang, who had been puzzled, said, "Is this true? Who are you?" Zhu Zhenheng: "My name is Zhu Zhenheng, you can just come to me when you get the medicine, and I will come back for a follow-up visit." Chen Tiejiang: "My God! You are the famous doctor Zhu Danxi! I..." A year later, the sick woman recovered. Documentary records: "Those who are in distress without warning, don't wait for the trick, just inject the medicine and it will rise, and it will follow a hundred miles away."

What kind of doctor can do this? It was raining, and it was pouring like a torrent.Someone is knocking on the door of Zhu Zhenheng's house. Servant: "Who is it?" Visitors: "I am Zhang Jinshi's family in Dongyang. Our second son is only two years old, and he is suddenly critically ill!" Servant: "Ah? It's raining so hard, come in first." Zhu Zhenheng looked anxiously at the visitor: "Who is sick?" Visitors: "The second son of our family has sores all over his head. Suddenly all the sores closed yesterday. Now he has difficulty breathing, wheezing, phlegm, and his breath is weak!"

Zhu Zhenheng grabbed the umbrella: "Hurry up! It's going to be too late!" It was raining heavily. In the boundless rain curtain, the sky and the earth are of the same color, and it is completely impossible to distinguish them, only a rough outline can be drawn. On the rugged country road, three people holding umbrellas are walking hurriedly, looking so small from a distance. Zhu Zhenheng fell down, and when he got up again, his body was already covered in mud. In fact, umbrellas are almost useless. Their bodies were already drenched, and the rain dripped down their clothes. When they arrived at Zhang Jinshi's mansion in Dongyang, all the people waiting were stunned. Zhu Zhenheng rushed to the tightly sealed child's bed amidst everyone's astonished eyes. The child's face was pale, his breathing was short, and his eyes were closed tightly. Zhu Zhenheng looked at the child's fingers, and said to Zhang Jinshi: "This is fetal poison, don't take the medicine that relieves the appearance and the medicine that relieves the symptoms!" Everyone was stunned, "Fetal poison? How could it be?" Zhu Zhenheng: "Think about it carefully, what did the child's mother like to eat when she was pregnant? (What did the mother like when she was pregnant?)" Zhang Jinshi carefully recalled: "Spicy and hot food is what he likes." Zhu Zhenheng: "That's true. Now I'm going to take ginseng, forsythia, chuanxiong, coptis, raw licorice, tangerine peel, peony, and akebia, boil it into a thick soup, and then mix it with bamboo juice!" In the middle of the night, Zhu Zhenheng, who was extremely exhausted, was sitting on a chair in the hall of Zhang Jinshi's mansion. He was so tired, and after the intense consultation, exhaustion hit him, his eyes slowly closed. Suddenly he was awakened by a sound. He opened his eyes and was surprised to see the Zhang family kneeling in front of him. Zhang Jinshi kowtowed with tears in his eyes: "Mr. Danxi, the dog has woken up and is no longer panting. Our whole family kowtows to Mr. for his kindness in rebuilding!" Zhu Danxi froze there, unable to react for a moment. According to literature records, when a patient came to see a doctor, Zhu Danxi "went there immediately, even though the journey was rainy and snowy, he never stopped." From the day when Zhu Danxi returned to his hometown to practice medicine, until the end of his life at the age of seventy-eight, he has been living in such a medical career without stopping for a day. The name Zhu Danxi was not called by him himself. His first name was Zhu Zhenheng and his courtesy name was Yanxiu. However, scholars and ordinary people respected him too much and did not dare to call him by his first name. They thought that calling him His name is extremely disrespectful, so we call him Zhu Danxi by the place where he lives. What is medicine? The way of medicine is to stick to the belief of "showing great compassion and compassion, and vowing to save the suffering of the soul". Under the guidance of this belief, a doctor can concentrate on treating and improving his medical skills wholeheartedly, and he will never turn back and defy all difficulties. !This is the highest level of medicine! If you don’t have this kind of belief, any little money benefit can change your treatment thinking, and any little difficulty may make you give up the pursuit of medical skills! Only those who walk alone in the cold morning mist with ginger in their mouths in order to save patients; Only the kind of people who hear that there are sick people, do not wait for invitations, and take the initiative to go to visit; Only the kind of people who, in order to rescue patients, are covered in mud in the sky full of wind and rain, fall and get up again; Only such people are the ones who have truly obtained the way of medicine. After going through untold hardships and treating countless patients, Zhu Danxi passed away in 1358 AD. Before he died, the last thing he did was to call his son in front of him, and said to him seriously: Studying medicine is a very difficult thing, you must take it seriously! (Medicine is also difficult, you should know it!) After saying this, he sat on the chair and died. These are the last words he left in the world.
