When Liu Yazi talked about Su Manshu's situation in Japan in "The Biography of Su Xuanying", he said with emotion: "There are many talented people in the world, and everyone is willing to travel from Xuanying, thinking that it is too late to meet each other." Liu Wuji, the son of Liu Yazi, said that the celebrities who interacted with Su Manshu "almost became a microcosm of literati and celebrities since the Republic of China". He listed the names of these people one by one: "Such as Feng Ziyou, Liu Jiping, Chen Duxiu, Li Zhongshi , Niu Yongjian, Chen Tianhua, Huang Xing, Zhu Zhixin, Qin Yuliu, Liao Zhongkai, He Xiangning, Chen Shaobai, Tao Changchang, Gong Weisheng (Weisheng), Zhao Boxian, Zhang Yunlei, Wei Lan, Luo Heizhi, Wang Dong, Ye Lan, Chen Taoyi, Ju Juesheng, Zhang Taiyan, Huang Kan, Liu Yazi, Chen Qubing, Gao Tianmei, Gao Chuiwan, Zhu Shaoping, Ye Chulan, Ma Junwu, Bao Tianxiao, Zhu Liangren, Huang Huiwen, Deng Qiumei, Ma Xiaojin, Cai Zhefu, Zhu Zongyuan, Li Xiaotun , Zhang Shizhao, Cai Yuanpei, Shen Yinmo, Xu Renru, Tian Ziqin, Deng Mengshuo, Shao Yuanchong, Xiao Renqiu, Chen Qimei, Chen Guofu, Song Jiaoren, Yang Shukan, Hu Hanmin, Chiang Kai-shek, Cheng Yansheng, Liu Shipei, He Zhen, Zhou Yucai, Zhou Zuoren, Xu Shoushang, Yuan Wen Yau, Chen Shuren, Zheng Tongsun, Ma Yifu, Liu Bannong, Folai Cane, Bo Luohan, Miyazaki Tozo, etc.

Wang Dong recalled the scene when he met Su Manshu in Tokyo in 1906: "When I was sixteen years old, I met Master Manshu in Tokyo, Japan. He dressed in barbarian clothes and trimmed his hair. I didn't know that he had ever received a monk's precept. He is innocent, so that people enjoy being with each other. Yu Fang traveled from the giants of the revolution, bowed to the crowd, and was as fierce as a tiger. When he saw Manshu, he was also heartbroken." Around 1907, Su Manshu had a relationship with Lu Xun in Japan, and the two jointly organized the magazine "New Life".Lu Xun mentioned Su Manshu many times during his lifetime. He told his Japanese friend Masuda Shinobu that Su Manshu was "an odd man who drank all he had when he had money, and lived an honest life in temples if he had no money. A nihilist, rather a decadent."In his letter to Masuda Tsubasa, he said: "Monk Manshu's Japanese is very good, I thought he was just like a Japanese."

Zhang Shizhao once said: "I am weak in the world, and I have made friends all over the world. I think there are three people who are the most difficult to make friends with: one is Chen Duxiu; one is Zhang Taiyan; one is Li Gengen." But these three are Su Manshu's best friends, and they are always friendly. When studying in Japan, Su Manshu met Chen Duxiu and respected him as a "fearful friend" all his life. At the beginning of the 20th century, whether in Shanghai or Japan, the two lived together and were almost inseparable.Zheng Tongsun said: "Manshu's friend is probably Zhongfu's longest and thickest."

He Zhiyu recorded: "Manshu learned calligraphy and poetry from Zhongfu, so Manshu's calligraphy is very similar to Zhongfu. Manshu's poems are not only similar, but many of them were written or revised by Zhongfu; while Zhongfu learned English and Sanskrit from Manshu. , every day..." Su Manshu's translation of Hugo was permeated with Chen Duxiu's thoughts. He once satirized many fake revolutionaries in Shanghai, "in name of entering a school, but actually entering a brothel".At that time, many people took their seats, and a person named Zhu Lingxi, after reading this passage, said angrily: "We must attack Duxiu and then hurry up!" After Zhang Shizhao's mediation, it was calmed down.

In 1906, Su Manshu got acquainted with Liu Shipei in Shanghai. After that, they traveled eastward to Japan together and lived with the Lius, his wife and Zhang Taiyan. It is said that during a conversation, Manshu was very happy to learn that Mother Liu knew Hehexian, and thus became very close to Liu Shipei. At that time, a "Portrait of Nuwa" was published in "Tianyi Bao", with a compliment, signed by He Zhen, but in fact the painting was painted by Manshu, and the compliment was Zhang Taiyan's grasping the knife. Zhang Taiyan is 16 years older than Su Manshu, but he is quite speculative. In 1907, when Manshu lived in Minbao, he faced Zhang Taiyan day and night.Lei Hongsheng once said in "Records of the Venerable Manshu": "I have lived with Taiyan for a long time, and his writing is often too polished, so the translation of Byron's poems in English contains many strange characters, which people do not know."

When Liu Shipei rebelled, the revolutionaries believed that Manshu was also Liu's accomplice. Zhang Taiyan wrote an article to defend Manshu, saying that Manshu hated those who conspired with Liu Shipei to betray the revolution. Yuanying can be slandered, and the universe may be almost dead." "Scholars in Guangdong, Confucianism has Jian Chaoliang, and Buddhism has Su Yuanying. They can be said to be high-minded, and those who resist floating clouds. If you are a follower of Huangjie, it is also second. How can you register party membership with your husband? , who is known as a high-ranking person, is it the same as Japanese?"

Liu Jiping is Su Manshu's classmate at Seijo School in Japan. Manshu always asks Liu for help whenever he is in financial distress and "has no money to shave his head and wash his body".No matter whether Liu is rich or not, he never refuses.Manshu said that when the two were teaching at Nanjing Junjun Primary School, they "could learn a lot from each other in the wind and rain".Manshu mentioned Liu many times in his poems, and gave Liu the photos he took with his adoptive mother Hehexian and his maternal grandparents when he was young.Manshu also asked Liu Jiping to write a biography for himself, saying: "For those who know what happened to my temperament, there is no one other than my brother."

While in Nanjing, Su Manshu met the young revolutionary Zhao Sheng. He wrote in "Swallow's Niche Essay": "Zhao Boxian rarely had the ambition to clarify the world. When Yu taught Jiangnan Army Primary School, Boxian was the third standard. He first met him. Yu sighed as a general. Every time he passed From then on, the soldiers must be ordered to buy salted duck rice wine. Bo Xian is proud of drinking, and Yu Yixiong is fond of eating. When he is drunk, he will press his sword and sing under the breeze and willows, or gallop between dragons, pans and tigers, and enjoy himself!"

Su Manshu once promised to draw a picture of "Drinking Horses and Deserted City" for Zhao Sheng, but it was never completed. After the failure of the Huanghuagang Uprising, Zhao Sheng was so indignant that he vomited blood and died, and was buried in Hong Kong.In the first year of the Republic of China, Manshu painted a picture of "Drinking Horses and Desolate City", and wrote a poem: "It is at a loss to join the army in Jueyu, and the southeast is full of words and papers. One flute and one sword flatten the business, and it has been famous for fifteen years." Follow Yanyan's example. The sword was hung in the mausoleum and asked someone to take it to Zhao Sheng's tomb and incinerate it.

In September 1907, Su Man was so financially supported by his biological mother, He Heruo, that he set off to return to China, but fell ill on the way, and when he returned to Shanghai, he was "only skinny". Deng Qiumei arranged for him to live in the library of the Chinese Studies Preservation Association.Chen Qubing recalled: "When Manshu came, he set up a couch in the rest of the room, and Zhu Zongyuan Zhenzhuang, Liu Sanjiping, Gao Xutianmei, Zhu Baokang, Shaopingheng came to meet and talked happily with each other." Members of the Preservation Association took a picture in front of the library. Manshu was wearing a suit and a bowler hat, which contrasted nicely with the old scholars in long gowns.

Once, Su Manshu and Ma Junwu argued about the translation of Byron's poems, and Manshu would not give in. Every time Ma Junwu was wronged, he became angry and wanted to punch Manshu, but Yang Cangbai stopped him.Yang later told people that Su Manshu was already a very pitiful person, so why would he have the heart to fight him again? According to Xue Huishan, Su Manshu often wandered by the West Lake, and visited Ms. Ye Renji, the manager of the pottery society.Ye Meiling ordered a large plate of cheap and delicious vinegared fish to share in the nearby "louwailou".Because Manshu was addicted to chewing candy, his mouth was full of dental caries. After a meal, there were a lot of debris between the teeth. Ms. Ye pulled out the silver hairpin on her head and asked Manshu to pick her teeth. After the founding of the Republic of China, Su Manshu went to the "Pacific News" as the editor-in-chief, and worked with Ye Chulan, Liu Yazi, Li Shutong and others.According to Liu Yazi’s recollection, the colleagues in the club had banquets almost every day, “If they don’t eat flower wine, they eat Western food, Chinese food, Western food is eaten in Lingnan Building and Yuehua Building, and Chinese food is eaten in Xinghua Building. Always Manju". Su Manshu was suave and uninhibited, but Sun Yat-sen was very close to him.Once, Liao Zhongkai did not intend to distribute the membership fee to Manshu, thinking that Manshu had studied the army but did not join the army, and he was so decadent. After Sun Yat-sen knew about it, he finally sent a message to Manshu. After Manshu's death, "Manshu's Remains" was compiled, and Sun Yat-sen personally inscribed "Manshu's Relics" for it. Yu Jianhua recalled that when he was studying in Tokyo, he often went to Chen Dao's place, and Su Manshu often came too.Tokyo is very rainy, and the streets and alleys are often muddy several inches deep, so you must wear high-toothed Tang clogs.Chinese students studying abroad often cannot walk when they put on wooden clogs, and they feel pain when it rains.Manshu grew up in Japan, but he is very used to it.Whenever Sheng Yu stays here for a while, and whenever they hear the sound of weeping coming from the alley, everyone will say, "Master Man must be here." Su Manshu also had contacts with Chiang Kai-shek, and it is said that they met through the introduction of his student Chen Guofu. At that time, Jiang was speculating on stocks in the Shanghai Stock Exchange. He lived in No. 11 Xinminli. Su Manshu and Ma Yifu, a master of Neo-Confucianism, met twice on the bank of the West Lake, and they talked eloquently, but they forgot. In his later years, Su Manshu made friends with Zhu Shaoping in Shanghai. Zhu once said to Liu Wuji: "When Manshu has no money, I will give Manshu half a dollar if I have silver. When Manshu wants candy, I will buy candy for Manshu." In his letter to Liu Wuji, Zheng Tongsun recalled his travels from Sumanshu in Anqing, saying: "We were in Anqing, and every day we went to Xiao Penglai for snacks or meals. Talking nonsense about the present and the past, I feel happy in my life, there is nothing more than this; but when I think about my old friend Huangtu, I don’t feel sadness coming from it, and I can’t comfort myself.”
