Chapter 84 Wang Jingwei was injured

Sun Fengming (1905-1935), also known as Sun Fenghai, was born in Xiaohezi Village, Huangji Town, Tongshan District, Xuzhou City.Because of the poverty of his family, he only went to winter school for a few months. At the age of sixteen, he went to the Guandong with his father, and then traveled to the south of the Yangtze River to join the National Revolutionary Army.In the 19th Route Army, he was promoted from soldier to squad leader, platoon leader, and acting company commander.Sun Fengming has practiced a good marksmanship, and he can "penetrate Yang with a hundred steps".Because they heard in the army that the Kuomintang did not resist Japan, but instead focused on waging war internally, Sun Fengming and several passionate young people decided to target the Kuomintang politicians.At the age of sixteen, he traveled through the Guandong with his father, and then traveled to the south of the Yangtze River. In 1927, he got acquainted with Hua Kezhi, the leader of the Nanjing student movement, and accepted revolutionary ideas. In 1934, Sun Fengming put forward the idea of assassinating Chiang Kai-shek, and scheduled the action on the day of the Sixth Plenary Session of the Kuomintang Central Committee.

After the opening ceremony of the Sixth Plenary Session of the Fourth Central Committee of the Kuomintang in Nanjing on November 1, 1935, more than a hundred members of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang took pictures in front of the conference hall. Chiang Kai-shek was not present, and Wang Jingwei and others were in the first row.Sun Fengming participated in the meeting as a reporter from Chenguang News Agency. While taking pictures, Sun Fengming took advantage of the crowd and disorder and shot Wang Jingwei.Since many media were present at the scene, including "Central Daily", "Shenbao", "Ta Kung Pao", "Central News Agency" and other media reporters made detailed reports as eyewitnesses.From these reports, it can be seen that Wang Jingwei hit all three shots.One shot hit the left arm, one shot hit the left cheek, and the other shot hit the spine on the back. Wang Jingwei fell to the ground amidst the screams, and the scene was chaotic.Central Committee member Zhang Ji hugged Sun Fengming at the waist, Zhang Xueliang kicked the gun off his hand, Wang Jingwei's guards returned fire, and Sun Fengming was shot and captured on the spot.

According to researcher Dong Yao, Chiang Kai-shek, who didn't know what happened at the time, became furious and said that he must keep his mouth alive and ask for clarification in order to clear his innocence.Therefore, he asked his subordinates to do their utmost to rescue Sun Fengming.The doctor was ordered to inject cardiotonic injections every hour, but Sun Fengming had long wanted to die, and finally passed away at the age of 30. Sun Fengming's wife was also arrested and imprisoned after the incident. With a strong personality, she was tortured without uttering a word, and finally died heroically.The other people who planned the assassination together were also arrested. More than 40 people were arrested successively, and more than ten of them were killed.Only Walker's anonymity escaped unharmed.

According to historical records, nine years later, in 1944, Wang Jingwei died in Nagoya, Japan, after being poisoned by the bullet left in his spine during Sun Fengming's assassination. The attempted murder of Wang Jingwei was the most high-profile and dramatic event that the public encountered that year. On November 1, the Central Committee began its official opening ceremony, with committee members lining up on stage for official and media photographers to take pictures of their attendance.Chiang Kai-shek was also supposed to participate in the photo-taking ceremony, but Chiang Kai-shek was in the toilet when the photo-taking started.The rest of the celebrities lined up around the supreme leader, Wang Jingwei at this time.When the photographers were preparing to shoot, a photographer with a reporter card from the "Chenguang News Agency" fiddled with the camera, and saw a sudden flash, followed by a gunshot, and Wang Jingwei was injured and fell to the ground immediately.In reality, the camera was a camouflaged weapon, concealing a small pistol that was fired through the lens.

After Wang Jingwei fell, the conference hall immediately became chaotic.Wang's guards shot the photographer, and two other state leaders on stage, Zhang Xueliang and Zhang Jiye, grabbed the photographer and threw him to the ground.Fortunately, Wang Jingwei was not fatally injured.But his wife, Chen Bijun, did not stop, angrily accusing Chiang Kai-shek of planning the murder.Annoyed by the accusation, Chiang called in Dai Li with orders to find the mastermind at any cost. Dai Li personally interrogated the injured assassin Sun Fengming. He first wanted to find out how the photographer Sun Fengming got a press card to attend the opening ceremony as a regular reporter.Sun Fengming's answer led Dai Li's investigation in two completely different directions.One led him to Dai Li's own comrades in the Lixing Society, and further pointed to Chiang Kai-shek himself;

Sun Fengming first admitted that there was an accomplice in the Central Military Academy.It turned out that this accomplice was Chen Guangguo himself, the general secretary of Lixingshe and Fengti's assistant.Dai Li immediately reported the situation to Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang seemed very surprised by Chen's intervention, so he immediately called a meeting of all the officers and inspectors of the Lixingshe.According to Qian Guoxun, who attended the meeting: Feng Ti's life was saved because of the second clue of Dai Li's investigation.During the interrogation, Sun Fengming also confessed the members of Chenguang News Agency, including president Hua Kezhi, editor-in-chief Zhang Yuhua, and department director He Boguang.These three people were immediately on the wanted lists of Dai Li's Secret Service and Chen Lifu's Central Unification Bureau.

Dai Li's agents captured Zhang Yuhua in Nanking, and he broke a leg when he tried to escape from the Cangzhou Hotel.At the same time, after interrogating He Boguang's girlfriend, the agents of the Central Statistics Bureau arrested He in the Danyang area.But neither the Military Command nor the Central Command were able to arrest Walker, who lived in the British Concession and had fled before their arrival. All in all, the fact that Walker was an accomplice connects the murder planners with the "Assassination King" Wang Yaqiao.Known as the king's right-hand man, Walker was involved in a string of murders of Japanese sailors and civilians, including the 1935 and 1936 killings at the port of Nakayama and Taminato.

This connection led the investigation to the diehards of the 19th Route Army, as the Kuomintang authorities had reason to believe that the murders were deliberate acts of provocation planned by the Communists in collusion with former 19th Route Army officers at the Burton Hotel owned by General Chen Mingshu . In November 1934, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau asked the Shanghai Municipal Police to assist in monitoring former officers of the 19th Route Army, tracking suspects coming and going at the train station, and especially conducting special visits to restaurants in order to catch the assassination team by surprise.The reason for this heightened vigilance, according to the Chinese authorities, was their knowledge that the Chinese, Japanese and Korean Communists had decided to "collude with officers of the Nineteenth Route Army, including one surnamed Chu, to set up a young lady in Shanghai to murder important KMT leaders and Japanese dignitaries, including HIJM ministers, for the purpose of embarrassing the KMT and creating a serious split between China and Japan.”
