Chapter 4 "Death is death!"

In 1980, I went to Hollywood for the first time to develop, and the film "Killer's Trenches" failed at the box office. In 1985, Golden Harvest had already set up a branch in the United States, and they suggested me to try it again in the United States. This time, they hoped to conform to the market demand and make me a "tough guy" like Clint Eastwood. I am very disgusted with this arrangement.I don't think I fit the image of that kind of cold killer, and I don't like that kind of role. It's okay to look "tough guy" in movies, but only if it's in self-defense or to protect a friend. But at that time, things were out of my control. Under the arrangement of the company, I took over the role of "The Dragon Detective".In it, American actor Danny Ellilo and I play a pair of New York criminal police partners who are ordered to go to Hong Kong to hunt down an international drug leader. This script covers many routines of Hollywood action movies in the past, such as foul language, nudity, and violent actions. I don't agree with the director's film style and shooting method, and this cooperation is not happy.Ultimately, the film failed again.

I am very unhappy. When I returned to Hong Kong, I immediately found my partner Deng Jingsheng, hoping to use my own way to shoot a film about the police, and I also wanted to shoot it for the director of the American film.In terms of action, I already have an idea. I hope that my action will be combined with a lot of glass in this movie. Later, my idea has been well implemented in the movie, and this film has also been accepted by my stunt colleagues. Called "Glass Story".There are a lot of very dangerous stunt shots in this movie. There is a passage in which the policeman Chen Jiaju, who I played, experienced a fierce fight in a shopping building and found that the target was in the lobby on the first floor. At that time, he was several floors high. In order to prevent the suspect from running away, Decided to jump directly to the first floor to hunt down the target.

The stunt required me to jump out of the sky, grab a column covered with Christmas lights in the middle of the lobby, slide down to the ground, pass through a glass structure partition, and land on the marble floor of the mall. The take-off height this time is about 30 meters. Many people have seen this scene, but you don't understand how horrible the situation was at that time. First of all, we have to shoot after the shopping mall closes at night. The time at night is limited. I was shooting another movie at the same time, "Dragon Heart" directed by Sammo Hung, and I had to rush to the morning shift the next day. there. After shooting that night, the set was torn down the next day and the scene was cleaned up before the mall opened for business. This means that not only do I have no chance to try again, but I don't even have a chance to NG.If you want to shoot, you have to succeed once.

We spent a lot of time on the preparation work. First, we had to remove the large chandelier in the shopping mall and replace it with three hanging iron pillars, and then we had to pull steel wires on it. The AA glue sticks, otherwise it is impossible to break them and slide them down during real shooting. After the steel wire is glued, sugar glue glass shards, colorful lights, electric wires are hung, and finally the blasting device is hung. There is another 600 pounds (1 pound = 0.4536 kilograms) of sugar-glued glass under the iron pillar, and there is a small wooden house below it, which contains about 10,000 candies. I jumped off it and relied on it to catch me.While they were getting ready, I fell asleep waiting by the side.

When they had just pulled two or three layers of steel wires, they woke me up and tried it at a position that was not too high. I jumped down and found that the steel wires broke just after two layers, and my hands were supposed to hold the middle tightly. The iron pillar, but the steel wire was continuous, and the hand naturally couldn't hold it, so the whole person had to let go and fall to the ground.During this process, the sky outside was about to light up. In order to prevent the light from penetrating in, the crew first sprayed black paint on the glass roof, but suddenly it rained, and the wet black paint was washed away by the rain, and the crew immediately Find a black cloth to spread. The main prop of this iron pillar is not ready yet, and at the same time, new problems keep coming.

The lighting team came to me and told me, brother, the dry batteries of the crew cannot light up the colored lights on the entire prop, we can only use the ordinary power supply of the building.I said what if there is a leakage?I will be electrocuted. They said, we will have someone watching by the socket, and if there is a leakage of electricity, we will unplug the socket and cut off the electricity... The prop came to me and said, brother, we must glue these steel wires stronger, otherwise it will be more dangerous. So when you jump down, you must pull down on the steel wire, so that you can slide down smoothly... The photography of several machines has been standing by on site for a long time, especially there is another one on the ceiling. He is already holding the machine and waiting For two or three hours, the clothes all over my body were soaked, with sweat dripping down, and the staff below complained about why it was dripping? ! ...

At that time, I had been filming many morning and evening shifts in a row, and I couldn’t sleep enough. I kept hearing such messages in my ears. Hundreds of people are waiting, and my whole body has become blinded from chaos. There is another pioneering work in this film, which may still be a record today. In order to ensure that this action can be recorded at different speeds and scenes, 15 machines were filmed at the same time. This means that there will be 15 photographers and 20 to 30 camera assistants on site, which is still very extravagant today. Some of them are high-speed photography, which means that as long as I waste a little time, I will run out of negatives if I don't jump down in time.According to the plot, the place where I jumped off was not a platform, it was just a very ordinary staircase handle, not only round, but also slippery, as soon as a person stood on it, he would jump off immediately without hesitation. This take-off point is still 8 feet away from the place where it falls, which is equivalent to doing a standing long jump on a 6-story building, jumping 8 feet, and then jumping from a mixed steel wire, colored lights, sugar glue glass, blasting The iron rod of the device slides down. Moreover, you can only succeed, not fail.

I looked at the hundreds of staff and extras below, my two heroines Maggie Cheung and Brigitte Lin, they were all looking at me below, and I said to myself, you can do it! A family member came up and said, brother, get ready.I told him, as long as I shake my head above it for a while, this is the signal, and you will turn on the machine. I finally stood on the armrest, subconsciously shook my shoulders, and heard the sound of more than a dozen machines starting at the same time!I want to say that I wasn't shaking my head just now, but it's too late. You can imagine that there were hundreds of people at the scene, but at that moment, there was no sound, and the whole audience could only hear the sound of the machine creaking and turning.I thought to myself, "Die, die!" Then I jumped out with a loud shout, and what I said in my mouth was-"Die!"

I soar into the sky. Clamping the iron pillar with both feet, the light bulb flickered and burst as it slid down, and the glass and sparks flew together.I felt my hands were hot first, then painful, and then numb. The whole thing came with my "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." hit 600 lbs of sugar glued glass, shattered it, and slammed into the candy shack. It worked. This shot isn't over yet. I want to use one shot to the end to express this plot.Jump down from the top, and then hit the gangster when you catch it.After landing, I got up immediately, grabbed a martial artist from the home-making class, and started beating, boom, boom, boom, until the person said, brother, stop beating, I am about to die.As soon as I let go, the man fell over.I just realized that I had lost my mind at that time, as if I had gone crazy.Only then did I turn around and face everyone, screaming vigorously: "Ah!!!"

At this time, I saw Brigitte Lin crying, Maggie Cheung crying, my manager, tea, makeup artist, clothing artist and other girls were all crying, I said very handsomely: "What's there to cry about!" After speaking, he turned to the side, and saw that his hands were covered with broken glass, and the skin was turned up.After a brief processing on the spot, it was time to pick up the morning shift. I got in the car and asked the driver to take me to Sammo Hung's set to continue filming "Dragon's Heart". I fell asleep as soon as the car started. When the driver said "Brother, we are here", I woke up and stretched out my hands to open the door. I found that both hands were not only swollen, but also trembling. I had no strength at all, and I couldn't even open the door.Only then did I realize how nervous I was at the time, and my whole body had collapsed from the explosion to the overdraft. This action left me with second-degree burns on both hands, blood all over my face, and broken sugar glue glass all over my body.

Looking back now, I still feel very proud.A lot of my stunts are once in a lifetime experiences. Fortunately, I did both. They were permanently recorded on film.
