Chapter 28 Postscript on the redefinition of the Chinese

According to our Chinese custom, the first day of the first month of the lunar calendar is the opening of the new year.My new work in this department was completed at this time when the 20th century and the 21st century alternated. When I finished writing the last word for Li Wanruo, a Chinese-American, I could already hear the fireworks outside the window to welcome the new century. Not long after that, the night sky was full of colorful lights, and the ears were full of sleepless nights of people and dogs cheering, cannons and flowers dancing—this kind of scene will no longer exist in Beijing where I live now, only in my hometown Jiangnan Suzhou can still be seen. And when I inadvertently left the last word of this work in my hometown to complete, I also inadvertently found that I and all living people in this world have jointly undertaken a great moment, that is, we are all extremely lucky to be Witnesses for the alternation of two millennia.

The reason why people are sentimental is because we understand thoughts and associations. In fact, eternal time is the same. There is no big change between yesterday and today, even today is the same 10,000 years ago.Time and era are all artificially endowed by us, so we have the lunar calendar and solar calendar, the year, month, day and night, and our concept of time. But who can say that it is not because of this concept of time that the world we live on is colorful today. With our own development and evolution, we have a new understanding of the past and the future. All because of the relevant time, the relevant progress began.Among them, the change of people is undoubtedly the biggest. For us to do this world, especially for human beings to ourselves, maybe only through the ruler and mirror of time can we fully understand, or completely deny, or completely allow God to shape a new look again. All in all, time is too important to our vision and concept.

More than ten years ago, when Chinese young people frantically crowded in front of the open country and competed to study abroad, someone once advised me why not go abroad too?My answer is not thorough patriotism, but it is very firm - I said I have not done a good job at home, why should I go abroad? For political future?Or to make money?Aren't the two still available in China? At that time, it was considered that first-class talents would never sharpen their heads and go abroad. A few years ago, when I had the opportunity to visit and study in the United States and Canada in North America. In those days, among some overseas Chinese I came into contact with, I felt a bit of sadness, because I saw some Chinese who traveled across the ocean in foreign lands, either intriguing with each other, or greedy for certain interests, play hard. They can speak fluent English, but they still spit all over the floor. The restaurant is so open that Westerners drool, but they run to brothels and casinos after closing... I have witnessed and experienced a Chinese Canadian in order to blackmail a Chinese With the money of the girlfriend who went there, she was able to resort to various means, even kidnapping and house arrest, which lasted for eight or nine months. Finally, the lady escaped with the help of the local police and Chinese organizations.

Those few months of investigation made me deeply feel mixed feelings for myself as a Chinese—some Chinese people who are not self-respecting abroad have greatly missed the level of my great country. I even want to learn English quickly and then think about writing. This article tells foreigners what a real Chinese is like. The real Chinese should have the same high level of civilized cultivation: the same high-spirited spirit, the same honesty and reliability in dealing with others, and the straightforwardness of doing things; the same daring and chivalrous spirit; , can sweep thousands of troops on the road to wealth, and also... also an excellent person of an excellent nation, the Chinese are originally the most outstanding group of people in the world family.

But I don’t know when, when Chinese people went abroad, they became bananas that were looked down upon by others—the complexion was yellow, and they couldn’t be hard after peeling (in many countries, local residents call Chinese people bananas in this way). I have to thank Li Wanruo.First of all, she helped me rebuild my confidence in overseas Chinese emotionally. This is very important, at least it brings me joy from many years of pessimism.Because in the past, I have always disliked the many Chinese who have traveled across the ocean, including those who have studied abroad, or the Chinese who have acquired the nationality of other countries. The reason is still one-I think their various behaviors after going out make us Chinese very embarrassed.

I have to thank Li Wanruo No. 2. It is she who gave me the opportunity to truly know the mainstream of Chinese Americans. Their talents and efforts, their achievements and fighting spirit, their minds and ambitions, their vision and sagacity, make our Chinese People saved countless faces and embarrassments that were looked down upon by others. The third thing I have to thank Li Wanruo is that I have developed another kind of self-confidence in myself, this kind of self-confidence is self-confidence in our nation and country. It has been five thousand years since the Chinese have their own country, and it is considered one of the oldest countries in the world. The old culture and consciousness, coupled with the influence of feudal remnants, we have finally recovered from the mud pit of standing still: It turns out that we are lagging behind, it turns out that we need to be updated, and it turns out that we can catch up again from knowing our own shortcomings!

So while writing this work, I was thinking about a question: what is a real Chinese?Does the definition of Chinese need to be redefined? It seems that this is a very important issue of right and wrong that needs to be clarified. Just as I wrote in my book that we Chinese do not know who we are, the Chinese should really know who we are. I think, from Li Wanruo's experience in the United States and American politics, the Chinese should understand the following points: One is that we can no longer blindly deny ourselves or blindly flaunt ourselves as in the past; The second is that we can no longer only care about ourselves and disregard the collective, and we must especially care about the dignity of the entire nation and ethnic group.

The third is that we can no longer focus on the small without foresight and ignore the lofty interests and the interests of all that affect the overall situation. Fourth, we can no longer pay less attention to participation, cooperation, strategy, reputation, reason and positivity. Actually, there's a long list of what we can't do anymore...whatever.We can no longer...just a symbolic statement. We can sum up thousands of lessons and experiences from Li Wanruo personally and the entire Chinese people in the United States who have experienced various honors and disgraces for more than a hundred years, but there is one thing that I think the Chinese should introspect is the cause of many honors and disgraces. It is precisely our own problem, that is, the backbone of a person and the backbone of an ethnic group, which often determines the fundamentals of a person's and an ethnic group's self-survival environment.White people are arrogant by nature because they have capital, but their capital is also built on the strong backbone of their unremitting efforts for hundreds of years. If the people on the Mayflower have been If they can't stand upright, then their Anglo-Saxon descendants will not be able to conquer the Indians and become the masters of the American states.Similarly, if the vast number of blacks hadn't united with the backbone to fight bravely and fearlessly against slave owners and white people, then today's blacks can only be sold as black ghosts in the United States and even in the whole world. The most obvious is the Jewish people. If they hadn't built the Great Wall of Steel with their heart, the State of Israel would never have a foothold in this world.

The more profound truth is that if it weren't for the Anglo-Saxon whites, plus the blacks, Latins, plus the common backbone of dozens of ethnic groups such as Jews and Mexico, then there would be no such people in this world. America is so powerful today. I appreciate Li Wanruo's sincerity. She has repeatedly emphasized that if she wants to be a respectable Chinese in the United States, she must first be a good American seriously and meticulously. The reason is simple, if you can't be a daughter-in-law of a husband's family, how can you be a good daughter who is loyal and filial?

The world and mankind are getting closer to great harmony and integration. If any country or nation today wants to obtain a good environment for survival and development, it must create a good environment for survival and development for other countries and nations.Creating a good living and developing environment for others is actually gaining air and sunshine for ourselves. As for what kind of people the Chinese should be, as far as overseas Chinese are concerned—we like to call them Chinese (this point Li Wanruo’s experience fully proves that no matter how you change your nationality or change your language and habits, as long as you can’t change If you have yellow skin and dark eyes, you will never be regarded as Chinese by others), when I finished writing the last word of this book, the conclusion and definition have already been produced, and all overseas Chinese just need to wait for their own detailed analysis. When it comes to our native Chinese, I don’t want to say too much. We will also find the real answer from the fate of honor and disgrace experienced by Li Wanruo and other Chinese living overseas.

If the general readers get this little gain from this work, I think Li Wanruo and I, the protagonist of this book, will be satisfied. Finally, I would like to say a few words about my feelings after finishing this book. The first is that I admire Li Wanruo very much. Her patriotism is clearly shown in the book. Another point that only my interviewers and writers know is that the passion and enthusiasm in her blood really amazes me. We get along well. In the days when we sometimes had to talk for twenty hours a day, she was still so energetic, especially when talking about politics and the fate of overseas Chinese. She is a very serious person and it almost wears me down.If it weren't for the glorious image of overseas Chinese she once owned and created, I would have completely given up publishing this book.I hope she can hear this kind moan from the bottom of my heart. The second sentence is that there were too many repetitions in the writing process of this book, which made several dear friends and editors who helped me work together also suffer a lot. I leave some dear friends in my heart. A deep emotion.Naturally, I should also thank my family, who also made sacrifices and contributions for my writing in the past two years. In the last sentence, I hope that not only Chinese readers will take a serious look at this book—especially readers in the political field, because knowing more about the inside story and composition of American politics will be of great benefit to dealing with Sino-US relations—and I would even like to give it a try. I hope that American readers, especially Chinese-Americans and those White House officials and members of Congress who formulate policies, can also read it, so that everyone will find some answers that are beneficial to their previous puzzles.
