Chapter 30 decline to serve as named vice president

After the "April 13" general election in 2000 and the new election of members of the 16th Congress, the Grand National Party prepared to hold a party conference in order to reorganize the new party leadership. On May 31st, the all-party meeting will be held at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Seoul. Four candidates, Lee Hoi-chang, Kim Deok-ryong, Son Hak-gyu, and Kang Sam-jae, will compete for president. People vying for vice president. When I stated that I would run for vice president, there was a lot of opposition in the party. There are two reasons.First of all, even if I don't run for the election, there will still be a vice president reserved for women, so those who oppose it think that I don't need to spend a lot of time to run for the vice president. The second reason is that they believe that the candidates for Daegu and Gyeongbuk should be singled out.

I can't understand either of these reasons. It's already the 21st century, but there are still guaranteed quotas for vice presidents for women, which makes people feel that women should not do anything, which is really hard for me to accept. The same is the vice president, the "designated" vice president who is guaranteed a quota and the "elected" vice president who is elected, I believe that the influence of the words of the two will be different.I don't want to be protected or given special treatment because I'm a "female politician" or to sit in a guaranteed seat because I'm a woman, which doesn't align with my political beliefs.I believe that one should sit in a seat elected by party members through fair competition in order to speak with confidence.

I will never be at ease, but go forward bravely to be a political person who walks the right path, and I will not relax every moment.
And I can't agree with the fact that the party's internal elections are promoting regionalism while the mouth is shouting to suppress regionalism.Members of the National Assembly in the Daegu area told me that the method of "one person, two votes" is a simplification method in which there is only one candidate in Daegu and one candidate in Gyeongbuk at the party convention, so that when the representatives of Daegu and Gyeongbuk vote Each cast one vote for Daegu and one vote for Gyeongbuk, so that both candidates can be elected. If I also stand for election, there will be two candidates in Daegu, and the votes will be split. But why is it necessary to simplify candidates by region so that members of that district can be elected?I can't accept it.

I deeply believe that the suppression of regionalism should start with the party elections. Both the ruling party and the opposition party are the same, and this kind of regionalism is very strong in the party elections. If real political reform is to be achieved, both the ruling party and the opposition party should get rid of this point.

The kindness and caring qualities of female leaders are a very powerful force.
Despite the opposition, I decided to run for VP.The campaign slogan I put forward is to change the political party in the direction of "democratic political party", "policy political party" and "informationized political party".This is also consistent with the three goals of "policy party", "inner court party" and "digital party" that I proposed after I became a party representative.

The media is also paying a lot of attention to the Grand National Party's vice president election. Not long after, the media took a sample survey on the voting intentions of representatives, and the results showed that I was the first, which shocked many people. It is quite surprising that members of the conservative Grand National Party would choose a woman as the first candidate. So I held a greater sense of responsibility and worked hard to run for the vice president this time.I appeal to party members across the country to support me and to support party reforms. As the polling day approached, I heard rumors among members of Congress: "If Park Geun-hye is raised too much, she will leave the party to participate in the presidential election", "Even if she does not vote for Park Geun-hye, she will be appointed as vice president, So it should go to those who need it."

Unexpectedly, the guaranteed quota for women preferential treatment has become an obstacle for female candidates during the election! This problem is still a difficult problem for women politicians. Both the ruling party and the opposition party are the same. When selecting party leaders, even if a female candidate does not rank among the top five, she will automatically become a supreme committee member. This system still exists today. At first glance, the system seems to be beneficial to women, but in fact it is not so, and sometimes female candidates do not get the votes they deserve. Some representatives, even if they have a female candidate they support, will vote for another male candidate because she would have been elected anyway.Who stipulates that there can only be one female candidate? There is no such rule!

I remained in first place until the day before the poll, but on poll day there were mixed results.About 14 percent of the more than 13,000 representatives, or 1,800 people, voted for Candidate Choi Byung-yeol, who was elected with the highest number of votes. And I got about 12%, or 1,500 votes, and came in second.Behind them are candidates Lee Bo-young, Ha Sun-bong, Kang Jae-sul, and Park Hee-tae. Some analysts pointed out that the day before the vote, the congressmen used the bloc voting system to contain me, but I was very calm because I did my best to achieve it with my own strength.Since I did it with my own strength, I feel that "the gain is more than the loss".
