The Soviet area has fought against "encirclement and suppression" all the time.In the struggle to establish the Jinggangshan Revolutionary Base and the Central Soviet Area, Chen Shuxiang has experienced many battles and made many achievements, and gradually grew into an excellent commander of the Red Army.

In October 1934, Chen Shuxiang led his troops to participate in the Long March of the Central Red Army and served as the general guard of the whole army. He frequently fought against the Kuomintang chasing troops, covering the main force of the Red Army and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Revolutionary Military Commission to continuously break through the first to third blockades of the Kuomintang army. Beginning on November 27, the Red Army and the Red Army fought fiercely with the Kuomintang army between Xing'an and Quanzhou in Guangxi, covering the whole army to cross the Xiangjiang River.Facing an enemy ten times larger than himself, Chen Shuxiang was calm and courageous, and commanded the officers and soldiers of the whole division to fight tenaciously and repel the enemy.Fighting day and night, the officers and soldiers of the Red 34th Division fought fiercely with the enemy for several days and nights, and made great sacrifices. The number of the whole division dropped from more than 6,000 to less than 1,000.

Dong Zhentang, head of the Red Fifth Army Corps, and Liu Bocheng, chief of staff, called a meeting of cadres above the Red Thirty-fourth Division.Notified Chiang Kai-shek to mobilize a total of 26 divisions with 300,000 troops to form a fourth blockade line in an attempt to completely wipe out our army in the area east of the Xiangjiang River! The meeting demanded that at the critical juncture of the survival of the Party and the Red Army, the Thirty-Fourth Red Division, after covering the Eighth and Ninth Divisions successfully passing through the Jiangsu and Paojiang Rivers, would serve as the rear guard of the entire army, block the enemy forces in the Guangxi waterwheel area, and cover the main force. The Red Army rushed to cross the Xiangjiang River. After the meeting adjourned, Chen Shuxiang arranged a blocking mission on the road.

Chen Shuxiang has no fear in the face of an enemy dozens of times larger than himself. After three days and three nights of hard fighting, Zhou Hunyuan's troops and a large number of other enemies were repelled again and again. Finally, the central authorities, the column of the Central Revolutionary Military Commission and the main Red Army crossed the Xiangjiang River on December 1, saving the Red Army and the party. At this time, all the crossings along the Xiangjiang River were completely blocked by the enemy, and the Red 34th Division was cut off on the east bank of the Xiangjiang River by the enemy, unable to cross the river to catch up with the main force.

On December 12, the Red 34th Division passed through Shangjiangxu in Jiangyong, Tianguang Cave, Lifu Cave in Dao County, and Tongshanling Mountains to Guzi River Ferry near Jianghua Qiaotoupu.Chen Shuxiang saw that the ferry was steaming with fog and it was as quiet as death, so he ordered his troops to prepare for battle and rushed to cross the Guzi River. When the ferry boat reached the middle of the river, the Jianghua militia ambushed on the opposite bank opened fire.Chen Shuxiang immediately ordered a squad to fight back with machine guns.He stood on the bow of the ship, disregarding his own life and death, and commanded the troops to rush across. After the leader of the Jianghua militia discovered that Chen Shuxiang was the commander of the Red Army, he ordered a gunman to target Chen Shuxiang.A shot came and hit Mr. Chen in the abdomen and was seriously injured. After Chen Shuxiang reluctantly commanded the troops to cross the Guzi River, he arrived. The soldiers carried Mr. Chen, who was bleeding profusely and his face was pale, on a stretcher, and retreated from the Jianghua Jiepai in the direction of Sima Bridge in Dao County.

On December 14, when more than 100 people from the remaining 34th Division of Danghong arrived at Zaohetian near Sima Bridge in Dao County, they were ambushed by the 1st Battalion of the Dao County Security Regiment. The fierce gunshots awakened Chen Shuxiang who had been in a coma for a long time.He endured the severe pain, and with the support of two soldiers, he commanded the battle. After repelling the Dao County security guards, Chen Shuxiang fell into a coma again.Seeing the teacher's painful expression, the soldiers felt as uncomfortable as frying oil. Suddenly, a soldier yelled: "Fight the enemy and avenge the teacher!" After finishing speaking, he picked up his gun and was about to rush up the mountain.Other fighters also responded positively.

Chen Shuxiang was woken up by the commotion, realized the seriousness of the situation, and shouted with all his might: "Come back, don't mess around!" When the soldiers heard the commander's order, they hurriedly surrounded the commander.Tears hung on the cheeks of the soldiers, but no one cried out. With the help of the soldiers, Chen Shuxiang sat up, looked around at the lovely soldiers around him, and said with difficulty: "How can we fight against the enemy? Comrades, we are a revolutionary team created by Chairman Mao himself. From the Autumn Harvest Uprising to the Jinggang Mountains and the five anti-encirclement campaigns, we are not afraid of such a difficult environment, will we be intimidated by the difficulties in front of us?" Chen Shuxiang licked his dry lips and said earnestly: "The enemy's purpose is to destroy us, and they wish we could fight them. It seems that it is impossible to return the same way. Everyone is ready to break through, rush out, and meet at Niulan Cave in front. Then, go to Jiuyi Mountain Fight guerrillas. A single spark can start a prairie fire." At this point, Chen Shuxiang stretched out his pale and cold hand, and tightly held that of Chief of Staff Wang Guangdao. After a long time, Chen Shuxiang said to Chief of Staff Wang: "Old Wang, you are an old comrade and party member. I entrust this team to you, and you must take them out!" Let's go together!" Chen Shuxiang forced a smile, and said: "The environment is so bad, and I look like this, can I rush out? You lead the team to break through, and I will cover. If you rush out, you count as one. We must not let the enemy's plot succeed!"

The enemy's new attack has begun! The security teams from Jianghua, Daoxian, and Ningyuan counties swarmed up from all around.Based on the favorable terrain of Hongdu Temple, Chen Shuxiang blocked the enemy and covered the comrades from the encirclement.Chen Shuxiang and the others ran out of bullets, and the mechanic died. The enemy screamed and rushed towards Hongdu Temple... The enemy was crazy with joy when he captured a Red Army division commander. He Xiang, commander of the First Battalion of the Dao County Security Regiment, who was in command at Simaqiao, ordered Chen Shuxiang to be carried to a cloth shop to find a doctor and deliver food for him.In an attempt to get information about the Red Army from Chen Shuxiang's mouth.Facing the threats and temptations of the enemy, Chen Shuxiang remained unwavering, refused medical treatment and hunger strike, and persisted in the struggle. He Xiang had no choice but to carry Chen Shuxiang to Dao County at dawn on December 18 to ask for credit from his superiors. At around 8 a.m., when he was walking behind Jiangjuntang Natural Village near Shimashen Village, Gongba Town, Dao County, Chen Shuxiang took advantage of the enemy's unpreparedness, gritted his teeth, endured severe pain, and stretched his hand through the wound into his abdomen to dig out his intestines. He tried his best, screamed, strangled his intestines, and sacrificed heroically.I was 29 years old.Fulfilling his heroic oath of "shedding the last drop of blood for the Soviet"!

After Chen Shuxiang died, the enemy cut off his head and sent it to Changsha to hang it at the city gate for public display. The masses buried Chen Shuxiang's headless body and the guards who died together in Xiandao County, on the shore of Xiaoshui, on the north side of the west end of Shangguan Bridge, behind the Central Grain Depot, and on Feixia Mountain behind the left rear of No. 2 Middle School. Double Bazu".After liberation, every Ching Ming Festival, members of the Communist Youth League and Young Pioneers often went to visit the tomb to pay homage.
