Chapter 97 96. Lei Feng - limited life for the people

Lei Feng (1940-1962), male, Han nationality, was born in Wangcheng County, Hunan Province, and a member of the Communist Party of China. He joined the army in 1960 and was the squad leader of the automobile company of Unit 65639 of the Chinese People's Liberation Army during his lifetime. Lei Feng was born in a poor peasant family. After liberation, with gratitude to the party and the people, he was willing to be a revolutionary "fool" and devoted his limited life to serving the people infinitely.Although he only had a primary school education, he worked hard to learn scientific and cultural knowledge and studied Marxist theory seriously. "Lei Feng Diary" truly recorded his firm belief in the party's cause. He always adheres to the spirit of "screws", doing what he does and loving what he does.He always rushed to the front for the hardest and most tiring work.He is willing to help others and cares about his comrades. Whether in the army or in other places, as long as he encounters difficulties, he will do his best to help others. "Lei Feng traveled a thousand miles on a business trip, and he did a good job for a train" was passed down as a good story back then.He lived a frugal life, and basically donated all the money he saved from living frugally to the disaster-stricken people and comrades-in-arms in need. In 1960, during the difficult period of the national economy, he donated 200 yuan at a time.He has been serving as an off-campus counselor for a long time as a volunteer. He encourages young people to grow up by buying books for primary and middle school students, giving stationery, and talking about his own growth experience. On August 15, 1962, he unfortunately died in the line of duty while performing a transportation mission at the age of 22.

Lei Feng liked to help others since he was a child. In August 1949, when Hunan was liberated, little Lei Feng approached a passing PLA company commander and asked to be a soldier. The company commander did not agree, but gave him a pen. In 1950, Lei Feng became the head of the children's regiment and actively participated in the land reform. In the summer of the same year, the party secretary of the township government offered him free reading, and in 1954 he joined the Chinese Young Pioneers. In the summer of 1956, after graduating from elementary school, he worked as a correspondent in the township government, and was soon transferred to the Wangcheng County Party Committee as a civil servant. In the spring of 1958, Lei Feng went to Tuanshan Lake Farm and learned to drive a tractor in only one week.In September of the same year, Lei Feng responded to the call to support Anshan Iron and Steel and went to Anshan, Liaoning to work as a bulldozer driver. In August of the following year, he came to Gongchangling Coking Plant, which was under difficult conditions, to participate in infrastructure construction. He once led his partners to fight in the rain to save 7,200 bags of cement from loss. The "Liaoyang Daily" reported this deed at that time.During his work in Anshan and the coking plant, he was rated as an advanced worker 3 times, a pacesetter 5 times, a red-banner bearer 18 times, and was awarded the honorable title of "Youth Socialist Construction Activist".

Conscription began in December 1959. Lei Feng urgently asked to join the army, and the leaders of the coking plant were reluctant to let him go.Lei Feng ran dozens of miles to the Liaoyang Military Service Bureau (now the People's Armed Forces Department) to express his determination to join the army.He is only 1.54 meters tall, a bit fat, with a baby face, thick eyebrows, big eyes, and weighs less than 55 kilograms. He does not meet the requirements for conscription, but because of his excellent political quality and experience, he was finally approved to join the army with an exception. After joining the People's Liberation Army, he was incorporated into the fourth squad of a transportation company of a certain engineering corps and served as the squad leader. He serves the people wholeheartedly, as long as it is beneficial to the people, he is willing to do it.In less than three years of joining the army, he won the second-class merit once and the third-class merit three times, and was awarded the titles of "conservation pacesetter" and "model Communist Youth League member".

Since 1961, Lei Feng has often been invited to other places to make reports. The more opportunities he has to travel, the more opportunities he has to serve the people. There is a saying among people: "Lei Feng travels a thousand miles, and a good deed is done." One time, when Lei Feng was going to change trains at Shenyang Station, he got out of the ticket gate, and he found a group of people around a middle-aged woman with a child on her back. It turned out that this woman went from Shandong to Jilin to visit her husband, but she lost her ticket and money.Lei Feng bought a train ticket to Jilin with his own allowance and stuffed it in the hands of the sister-in-law. The sister-in-law said with tears: "Brother, what is your name, and which unit do you belong to?" Lei Feng said: "My name is the People's Liberation Army. live in China."

One day in May, Lei Feng braved the rain to go to Shenyang. In order to catch the early train, he got up at 5 o'clock in the morning, took a few dry steamed buns, put on a raincoat and started on the road. Leading a little girl is also struggling to walk to the station.Lei Feng took off his raincoat and put it on his sister-in-law, and picked up the little girl to accompany them to the station. After getting on the bus, Lei Feng saw the little girl shivering from the cold, so he took off his own sweater and put it on for her. She probably didn't eat in the morning, so she gave them the steamed buns she brought. When the train arrived in Shenyang, it was still raining, and Lei Feng sent them home again. The woman said gratefully: "Comrade, how can I thank you!"

During the Chinese New Year, comrades-in-arms happily engage in various recreational activities together.Lei Feng played table tennis with everyone in the club for a while, and he thought that the service and transportation departments are the busiest every New Year's day, and how much they need help.He put down his racket, called several comrades in the same class, and went straight to the nearby Piaoertun Station after asking for leave. This one helped clean the waiting room, and the other poured water for the passengers. Lei Feng mobilized the whole class. Lei Feng chose to do good deeds for the people wholeheartedly without stopping. No wonder people think of Lei Feng when they see someone who does good deeds for the people.Because he is a good example for us!

After October 1960, Lei Feng served successively as an extra-school counselor for Jianshe Street Primary School (now Lei Feng Primary School) and Benxi Road Primary School in Fushun City. Lei Feng is usually very busy with work and study, so he can only use his lunch break or the days when he cannot leave the car due to wind and rain to ask for leave to go to school to visit teachers, talk with classmates, or conduct other counseling activities. He is good at uniting children, inspiring them to study hard and make progress every day. With a high sense of mission and responsibility, Lei Feng worked hard to train the next generation to thrive. In recognition of Lei Feng's deeds, the Fushun Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League awarded him a certificate, which read: "Awarded to the outstanding counselor Comrade Lei Feng, keep the honor and move on."

In September 1961, the whole group unanimously elected Lei Feng as the deputy to the Fushun Municipal People's Congress. After Lei Feng attended the National People's Congress, he returned to the company and served as the squad leader of the second row and the fourth squad. Under his leadership, the fourth squad became the "four good squads", and Lei Feng also became the fourth squad leader of the whole company. At 8:00 am on August 15, 1962, when it was raining heavily, Lei Feng and his assistant Joan Anshan drove back to the station from the construction site. After they drove the car into the company's yard, they found a lot of muddy water splashed on the car body. Regardless of the fatigue from the long-distance driving, they immediately asked Qiao Anshan to start the car and go to the open space to wash the car.Passing through a relatively narrow aisle in front of the barracks, for the sake of safety, Lei Feng stood on the side of the aisle, raised his arms and instructed Xiao Qiao to reverse the car and turn; "Left, left...reverse! Reverse!" Suddenly, the left rear wheel of the car slid into the car. In the ditch on the side of the road, the car body swayed violently, and suddenly knocked over a square wooden pole that is usually used to dry clothes and quilts. Unfortunately, Lei Feng was hit by the fallen square wooden pole on his right temple, fell to the ground on the spot, and passed out... …

The comrades-in-arms immediately sent him to a nearby hospital on a stretcher for emergency treatment. The leaders at all levels rushed to the hospital immediately, and at the same time brought the medical experts from Shenyang to Lei Feng's bed as quickly as possible.Due to skull injury, leading to brain dysfunction, Lei Feng, a good son of the working people and an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, was only 22 years old, so he bid farewell to us forever! On August 17, 1962, a grand memorial service was held in the government auditorium of Wanghua District, Fushun City.Nearly 100,000 people escorted Lei Feng's coffin to the Martyrs Cemetery.

In 1963, Mao Zedong and other older generation of proletarian revolutionaries issued a call to learn from Comrade Lei Feng. The Ministry of National Defense named the class he was in during his lifetime as "Lei Feng Class".Approved by the Central Military Commission, his portraits were printed and distributed to the entire army, and hung and posted in units above the company.
