On July 11, 1982, Wei Zhide, a 69-year-old man from Xinzhu Township, Baqiao District, Xi'an City, was knocked down by methane gas and fell into a cesspool when he was dredging excrement in a public toilet.Zhang Hua, who was nearby, heard the cry for help, and went down into the cesspool 3 meters deep without hesitation, and tried his best to rescue Uncle Wei. Unfortunately, he was suffocated by the strong methane gas and fell into the cesspool. Due to severe poisoning and suffocation, the rescue failed and he died gloriously. Only 24 years old.Zhang Hua's heroic behavior and noble character generated strong repercussions in the whole society, triggered a nationwide discussion on "how to measure the value of life", and had a major impact on contemporary youth's establishment of a correct outlook on life and values.The cadet brigade that Zhang Hua was in during his lifetime insisted on building a team and educating people with the spirit of Zhang Hua, and was awarded the honorary title of "Model Cadet Brigade" by the Central Military Commission. In 1982, he was posthumously awarded the honorary title of "Excellent College Student Full of Ideals and Dedication" by the Central Military Commission. The Fourth Military Medical University awarded him first-class merit and recognized him as a revolutionary martyr.

In the summer vacation of 1981, when he returned to his hometown, he encountered a flood that had been rare for many years.His family lived in a vast ocean, and the house was soaked in flood water more than two meters deep.Zhang Hua didn't care about his own home, and only wore a pair of shorts, jumped into the water to help the residents move, first helped the workers of the four households out of danger, and helped them salvage the wooden boxes, cabinets, and wood washed away by the flood...
