Wang Jie (1942-1965), male, Han nationality, from Jinxiang County, Shandong Province, a member of the Communist Party of China. He joined the army in 1961 and was the squad leader of Squad 5, Company 1, Engineer Battalion, Unit 73081 of the Chinese People's Liberation Army during his lifetime. On July 14, 1965, he died heroically to cover the militia during a training session, and was posthumously regarded as a revolutionary martyr. Wang Jie was born in 1942 in an ordinary peasant family in Hualu Village, Chengjiao Township, Jinxiang County, Shandong Province. He loved listening to hero stories and reading hero picture books since he was a child. In 1957, when the flood flooded his hometown, he risked his life to save the horses of the production team. In 1958, he was admitted to the junior high school of Jinxiang No. 1 Middle School, and every Sunday he went home to help the production team calculate the accounts.

In August 1961, Wang Jie was enlisted to join the Chinese People's Liberation Army and served as a soldier in the first engineering company of a certain armored unit of the Jinan Military Region. In February 1962, he joined the Communist Youth League of China. He earnestly studied Chairman Mao's works, consciously accepted the education of the party organization, and raised his political and ideological awareness. On February 21, 1963, I wrote in my diary: No matter what job I do in the future, I must do it: be loyal to the cause of the party, and sacrifice bravely for the victory of the revolution. personal safety. In national defense construction, he always rushed to work in the most dangerous places, insisted on swinging a sledgehammer, his arms were tired and swollen, and his hands were blistered. On August 27, 1963, Wang Jie's troops were ordered to fight floods in Hebei Province for disaster relief. One night, their superiors ordered them to go to the timber yard to rush to transport timber. The field was besieged by the vast flood, and a sharp soldier had to be sent to find a safe way first, so that everyone could enter the field smoothly.Comrade Wang Jie preemptively requested to undertake this combat task.He groped his way through the chest-high water, falling several times into deep pits that went above his head. When looking for the entrance and exit, his legs and hands were bloodstained by the barbed wire under the water, but in order to successfully complete the rescue task, he completely ignored all these. His spirit of indomitableness and forging ahead against difficulties has greatly inspired and educated his comrades-in-arms.

He used his own actions to practice his oath of "not afraid of suffering, and not afraid of death". After joining the army, he was named a five-good soldier for three consecutive years, won third-class merit twice, received awards many times, and was named a model member. In January 1964, Wang Jie was promoted to be the deputy squad leader and later the squad leader. On February 3, he wrote in his diary: "Our young people should be like strong grass in the strong wind, and pines and cypresses in cold weather. They can stand the test of hardships and hardships, and bravely shoulder the burden of building socialism."3 In January, because he raced against the clock and worked hard, he was admitted to the first-level technical expert. He always put the interests of the revolution first. During his tenure as a blaster, he did not waste an inch of the fuse, and was determined to "take over and pass on the style of hard work." In September of the same year, his family repeatedly sent letters urging him to go home and get married. , he postponed the wedding again due to work needs. At the beginning of 1965, his mother had a heart attack. He put the emphasis on combat preparation and declined the vacation arranged by the company three times.

Helping the militiamen to train blasting techniques was a task assigned by the company to Comrade Wang Jie and Chen Xueyi. When Wang Jie and Chen Xueyi arrived at the training ground, they were welcomed by the militiamen. On the morning of July 14th, they conducted the last training—landmine explosion. Wang Jie asked everyone to form a circle and let him demonstrate the movements.Suddenly, white smoke rose from the soil layer where the explosive package was buried. At this critical moment, Wang Jie yelled "Get out of the way", then flew up and rushed towards the explosive package (explosive package was used instead of landmines for live explosion training). With a loud bang, Wang Jie fell into a pool of blood. The 12 militiamen and military cadres present were rescued, but Wang Jie, who was only 23 years old, gave his life.

Under the repeated requests of the Zhanglou Commune and the resident residents, the army decided to bury Wang Jie at the place where he died; the commune bought the best nanmu and invited a famous local carpenter to make a coffin for Wang Jie. On the morning of July 16, the local people held a grand funeral ceremony for Wang Jie. Men, women, children, and military officers and soldiers from tens of miles around formed a huge funeral procession, crying loudly along the way. On September 16, more than 7,000 people from a certain tank division and Xuzhou party and government agencies held a grand memorial meeting.

According to Wang Jie's wishes during his lifetime, the party committee of Wang Jie's army ratified him as an official member of the Communist Party of China. The then party and state leaders Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Lin Biao, Zhu De, Ye Jianying, Dong Biwu and Lu Dingyi personally wrote inscriptions for Wang Jie.Chairman Mao Zedong's inscription is: "I agree with such a slogan, which is called 'one is not afraid of suffering, and the other is not afraid of death'." Zhou Enlai's inscription is: "The mountains soar into the sky, and we construct for the people. We are not afraid of the hardship and tiredness of construction. Dedicate your youth to the people."

In November 1965, the Ministry of National Defense named his class "Wang Jie Class". In 1968, in memory of Wang Jie, the people in his hometown renamed his hometown Huagu Village (also known as Huagu Village) as "Wang Jie Village", and built a memorial hall for the martyrs Wang Jie in the east of the village, so that future generations can remember the martyr's hero deeds.
