Chapter 7 3. I participated in initiating and organizing Peking University Student Union

Let's talk about the initiation and organization of the Peking University Student Union during the "December 9th" Movement.The period of the "December 9" Movement mentioned here refers to the period from December 9, 1935 to July 28, 1937 (the fall of Peking). Since 1933, the student unions of most schools in Peking, including Peking University, have been destroyed by the reactionaries. In late November 1935, Peking University classmate Liu Songyun (also known as Liu Jiangling, an underground party member) said to me: "Peking Student Federation is mobilizing students in various schools to restore or organize student unions, and we Peking University students should also take action." I participated in the preparation Organize the activities of the Peking University Student Union. At the beginning of December, I signed and initiated the organization of the Peking University Student Union. On December 6, I participated in the preparatory meeting of the student union held in the Red Building of Peking University.The articles of association of the student union were discussed at the meeting, and the method for electing representatives of each class was decided.13 preparatory committee members (one from each department) were elected to be responsible for printing and distributing ballots. Ballot boxes were set up in the three courts of literature, science, and law.

On the afternoon of December 9th, because the students participated in the demonstrations, they were unable to do so. On the night of December 9th, the underground party branch, the Youth League branch and some activists of Peking University held meetings all night to study how to organize the student union and how to carry out the anti-Japanese and national salvation movement. On the morning of December 10th, the class representative meeting was held in the Red Building, and the constitution of the student union was discussed and approved, the person in charge of the student union was elected, and I was elected as an executive member.The class representative meeting decided: From now on, a general school strike will be implemented; and it is decided to hold a general student meeting of Peking University in the afternoon.

At 2:00 p.m., the Peking University student assembly was held in the Xinsizhai courtyard.First of all, it was announced that the Peking University Student Union was formally established. This was the first Peking University Student Union established during the "December 9th" Movement.The plenary meeting passed the following resolutions: (1) In the name of the meeting, issued a strike declaration by Peking University students; (2) In the name of the student union, sent representatives to participate in the Peking City Student Federation; (3) issued a declaration against the establishment of the "Hebei-Chahar Administrative Committee".The meeting elected Zhu Zhonglong (Zhu Muzhi), Han Tianshi and other three persons as the general affairs of the Peking University Student Union (equivalent to the chairman and vice-chairman). On the evening of the 10th, the first executive committee of the student union was held in the Second Hospital of Peking University to discuss measures to implement the resolutions passed by the plenary meeting.
