Chapter 44 Martyr Li Hanqing (1895-1941)

Martyr Li Hanqing, styled Molin, was born in 1895 in Shandong County (now Fan County, Henan). Since childhood, his family was poor, and later he joined the army and entered the Fujian Suiying Military Academy.After graduation, he served as company commander in the warlord army. In July 1926, the National Revolutionary Army swore to the Northern Expedition, advancing in three routes.Under the influence of the revolutionary upsurge at that time, Li Hanqing broke away from the old army and led his troops to join the ranks of the National Revolutionary Army's Northern Expedition. He was gradually promoted to battalion commander, regiment commander, and deputy brigade commander with his military exploits.

In the autumn of 1937, the Japanese invaders launched a large-scale war of aggression against China, and the anti-Japanese soldiers and civilians all over the country rose up to resist the Japanese invasion.As a patriotic soldier, Li Hanqing was full of hatred for Japanese imperialism. When he heard the news of the Japanese invasion, he was filled with righteous indignation. After the August 13th Songhu Battle broke out, Li Hanqing was ordered to lead his troops to Shanghai to fight, and was tasked with guarding the front line of the military industry road.In the brutal battle, Li Hanqing fought bravely and took the lead. He led his troops to brave the fierce Japanese land, sea and air firepower, held their positions for four days and nights, and successfully completed the tasks assigned by their superiors.

In the summer of 1938, during the battle to defend the Great Wuhan, Li Hanqing was ordered to lead his troops to guard the flanks of the Tianjia Town Fortress and prevent the enemy from advancing along the river to Wuhan.The elite Sixth Division of the Japanese army surrounded the fortress of Tianjia Town. Li Hanqing led his troops to resist. In the subsequent counterattack against Gao'an and the first Changsha battle, Li Hanqing was known for his bravery and skill. In 1940, Li Hanqing led his troops to participate in the battle on the outskirts of Nanchang, and made further achievements in battle. In the autumn, he was promoted to the commander of major general infantry of the 57th Division of the Army.

In April 1941, during the famous Battle of Shanggao, General Li led only two regiments to hold on to Shanggao City. He encouraged the soldiers to fight the enemy bravely, vowing to live and die with the position.Li Bu fought bloody battles with the enemy for nine days and nights, repelling many crazy Japanese attacks.Whenever the battle situation was dangerous, General Li personally led the reserve team to fight against the enemy. Fighting with flesh and blood, they defeated the Japanese attack and laid the foundation for the great victory of annihilating 10,000 Japanese troops in the stalemate stage of the Anti-Japanese War.

In the autumn of 1941, the Japanese army concentrated more than 100,000 troops to attack Changsha again. General Li Hanqing was ordered to lead his troops to help. When Li's troops traveled to Chunhua Mountain in Shanggao County on September 25, they encountered the enemy, and the two sides fought fiercely.The next day, Li's troops attacked the enemies at Lukou, Shema, and Linqiao again, and fought with the 3rd and 40th Divisions of the Japanese Army between Fenglingang, Chunhua Mountain. On the 27th, the 6th Division of the Japanese Army and a part of the 40th Division detoured to the two wings of Li's troops. The situation was very critical.

General Li was ordered to lead the army reserve team, Guo Gongdu crossed the river, attacked the Japanese army on the back, and killed more than a thousand enemies.But Li Bu was also surrounded by reinforcements from the Japanese army.The two sides rushed desperately, causing heavy casualties.With high morale, I will fight to the end under the leadership of General Li, and would rather die than surrender.But in the end, due to the outnumbered enemies and the bloody battle for several nights, the supplies were cut off, and the situation gradually declined.General Li knew that the situation was critical, but he remained calm and encouraged his subordinates to persevere to the end.He encouraged him and said: "Our army has fought bloody wars since August 13th, and it has been here for five years. We know the enemy's tricks, but nothing more. The final victory will belong to me. I hope my compatriots, encourage the rest of the courage, and go forward... "

After hearing this, the soldiers became more courageous and rushed to the Japanese army.During the fierce battle, a bullet hit General Li's vitals. When he was dying, he still shouted to kill the enemy. Soon, he died heroically on the anti-Japanese battlefield. In order to educate the future generations of our nation, and always learn from General Li Hanqing's patriotic spirit of resisting Japan and saving the country, and heroically sacrificed his life, the National Government specially honored Martyr Li Hanqing as a lieutenant general of the army.
