Chapter 31 Become a "Newsmaker"

October 1, 1949 has become a historic day. At 2:00 p.m. that day, the Central People's Government Committee held its first meeting in the Palace of Qinzheng, Zhongnanhai, Beijing, and unanimously resolved to declare the establishment of the Central People's Government of the People's Republic of China and accept the "Common Program of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference" as the policy of the government.Zhou Enlai was appointed Premier of the State Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs. At 3:00 p.m., 300,000 soldiers and civilians in the capital Beijing held a grand founding ceremony in Tiananmen Square.On the Tiananmen Gate, Mao Zedong announced to the world: "The People's Republic of China has been established!" Hu Qiaomu also followed Mao Zedong to the Tiananmen Gate.

On this day, Xinhua News Agency broadcast an important editorial: "Long live the People's Republic of China!" ". It goes without saying that this editorial was written by Hu Qiaomu again. Hu Qiaomu wrote: "The People's Republic of China with a bright future has been born. Forty-seventy-five million Chinese people have begun to govern the country on their own. Our ancient oriental nation has opened a new book of history..." On the occasion of the founding of New China, Hu Qiaomu was appointed as the director of the General Information Administration.Soon, he added a very appropriate appointment - the spokesperson of the Central People's Government.

In fact, before the founding of New China, Hu Qiaomu wrote so many editorials, comments, and news for Xinhua News Agency, he was actually playing the role of the spokesperson of the CCP, but there was no such name at that time. In addition, he still served concurrently as the Deputy Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (from 1950 to 1954, he served as the Executive Vice Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China) and the President of Xinhua News Agency. He also serves as the editor-in-chief of the People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

He was, of course, still Mao Zedong's political secretary. He has always been working "behind the scenes", and his published articles appear in the form of editorials and comments, and his name is rarely seen in newspapers.However, since he served as the director of the General Information Administration, especially as the spokesperson of the Central People's Government, he has come from behind the scenes to the front desk and has become a "news figure". At this time, some newspapers published articles introducing Hu Qiaomu, making this person who had been behind the scenes "appear" for the first time.

On December 2, 1949, Shanghai's "News Daily" published the article "Jie Hu Qiaomu" signed by Huang Shan, which is recorded below: Hu Qiaomu, the president of Xinhua News Agency and director of the General Information Administration, is from Yancheng County, northern Jiangsu. He came from a landlord family. His father, Mr. Hu Qidong, was a member of the old National Assembly.His original name was Dingxin, and he had five brothers and sisters. He and his elder brother Daxin had studied in the former Jiangsu Provincial No. 8 Middle School in Yangzhou. He entered the school in the autumn of 1924. The excellent article "Preface to Sending Secondary School Students to Hangzhou for a Visit" is well-known throughout the school; the school specially published this article and gave it to everyone for reference.His grades in English and mathematics are far above the others, so his husband and classmates call him a "child prodigy";

He was admitted to the Physics Department of Tsinghua University in Beijing in 1930. At that time, the traditional psychology of ordinary students was that they were proud to go to Jiaotong University in the south and Tsinghua University in the north; especially the students who graduated from Tsinghua University had the priority to stay in the United States, which is what everyone called " longing for" school.With Hu's intelligence and intelligence, as long as he finished his studies for four years, he would have no problem "going abroad for further studies"; but he accepted the truth of Marxism-Leninism and embarked on the revolutionary front...

Although there are discrepancies in some places in this article, it generally outlines Hu Qiaomu's life trajectory. Two months later - on February 3, 1950, Singapore's "Nanqiao Daily" published an article signed by Jiang Shan, entitled "Seriously Refuting Mei Kui's Information Director Hu Qiaomu", nearly 2,000 words, more detailed .According to the original text, some excerpts are as follows: The spokesperson of the Central People's Government, Hu Qiaomu, director of the General Administration of Information of the State Council, recently distorted the Sino-Soviet talks against US Secretary of State Acheson (quote note: Acheson) (quote note: Mao Zedong led a delegation to the Soviet Union at that time) Talks with Stalin), this is the first speech he made on behalf of the government since the establishment of the General Information Administration, and we must have many opportunities to hear him speak on behalf of the government, whether it is on domestic or international aspects Yes, he seems to be an announcer on a radio station. People all over the country are always waiting for his voice, and they all want to know the will and trend of the people's government from him.

Although his responsibility is so heavy, he has always been a revolutionary worker in the past, so apart from the people inside the CCP and the people in the area where he works, few people know his experience... Then, the article introduced Hu Qiaomu's experience, which mentioned that he "served as Chairman Mao Zedong's political secretary".Finally, the author writes: Now he is the president of Xinhua News Agency, the president of Beijing People's Daily, and the director of the General Administration of Information of the Government Administration Council. He shoulders the heavy responsibility of national news reports, political propaganda and government spokesperson. He can write and speak. , will do, is competent and happy, baht said.

Hu Qiaomu was not happy about these reports.He still hopes to quietly bury his head behind the scenes, and he does not want to introduce himself in the newspapers. Fortunately, he is the director of the General Information Administration, and ordered the newspapers not to publish any more reports about him.Since then, the reports about him in Chinese newspapers have come to an end.It wasn't until he later became a member of the second Politburo of the Communist Party of China that he had to publish his resume according to the usual practice. Then he read it and Xinhua News Agency sent a resume of several hundred words about him, that's all...

At this time, it is worth mentioning that Hu Qiaomu's refutation of US Secretary of State Acheson, which was published in the "People's Daily" on January 21, 1950, was actually not drafted by Hu Qiaomu, but by Mao Zedong! This time, it was different: usually, Hu Qiaomu drafted documents for Mao Zedong, but this time, Mao Zedong "caught the knife" for Hu Qiaomu! At that time, Mao Zedong was visiting the Soviet Union. On January 12, 1950, Acheson made a speech, saying that "the Soviet Union is annexing northern China."The Soviet side suggested that the Soviet side and the Chinese side each issue an official statement refuting Acheson's statement.Therefore, Mao Zedong personally wrote a statement at 5 a.m. on January 19. It was written in the form of Hu Qiaomu, director of the General Information Administration of the Central People's Government, speaking to Xinhua News Agency reporters.After Mao Zedong wrote the statement, he sent it to Beijing by telegram. Mao Zedong specifically noted:

"(1) Use passwords, not clear codes; "(2) Precise corrections, no typos; "(3) It must be sent out today (nineteenth), so that Comrade Liu Shaoqi can receive it tonight or tomorrow morning." Mao Zedong's telegram was sent to "Comrade Shaoqi and complained to Qiao Mu", telling him that "I wrote a speech in the name of Qiao Mu, please publish it at your discretion." The original text of the telegram written by Mao Zedong is as follows: (Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, 20th) Hu Qiaomu, director of the General Information Administration of the Central People's Government, delivered a statement to Xinhua News Agency reporters today, refuting the shameless rumors made by US Secretary of State Vin Chesson. Director Hu Qiaomu said: U.S. Secretary of State Acheson created a series of rumors in his long speech at the National Press Club on January 12.The fact that U.S. imperialist officials, represented by people like Acheson, are turning day by day into the most incompetent political swindlers who cannot live without invoking the most shameless rumours, shows that the U.S. imperialist system is under attack. To what extent have you fallen mentally... The full text of the telegram was about 1,500 words, and it denounced Acheson, which naturally attracted attention both at home and abroad.Of course, Hu Qiaomu's name also attracted attention. According to Shi Zhe, who served as Mao Zedong’s Russian translator, Stalin asked whether the Chinese government had issued a statement. Mao Zedong replied: "It was published, and it was published in the name of Hu Qiaomu." Stalin asked, "Who is Hu Qiaomu?" Mao Zedong replied: "It is the Director of the Information Department, and the statement is issued in his name."
