Chapter 1 creative speech

Destiny of Chang'an 建安 5462Words 2018-03-12
Since writing martial arts novels seven years ago, literary friends, friends, relatives, and colleagues often ask me, why do I write martial arts novels?Although I am not used to watching people order dishes, I will vary from person to person. Answer this why?Or they like it, or they have something to say, or they are bored, or they want to revitalize martial arts novels. But never really thought about why.Today Meng Hansheng did not give up, and asked this question again. On the spur of the moment, he simply explained the mental journey of these years here one by one. I write martial arts because I am bored—to be bored! But the mood was extremely depressed, and I wanted to have a place to express it, so one morning, I wrote it on a piece of paper. However, after only ten days of writing, I was transferred to another department, and suddenly became busy. At the same time, I was strongly opposed by my husband. My writing plan was quickly transferred to the underground, but at this time I was already addicted to drugs. People, if you don't write 30,000 to 50,000 characters every day, you can't survive the day.It was in this state of 'addiction' that I completed the first draft of the book in only 10 months, but it took me six years to revise the book.

When I wrote martial arts, no one taught me, I just thought to myself: what kind of story should I write? What kind of protagonist is there in the story? What kind of personality does this person have...? In my opinion, the creation of novels, not just martial arts novels, seems to focus on the characters. If the characters stand up, then most of the success will be achieved. It's what Shen Congwen said: "Write with characters." When Yin Yannian was written, the first draft made him a perfect man. After feeling wrong! If you want to write about a living person, you must make him like a human being, with human emotions, emotions, and desires.Of course, there are also human weaknesses and faults... So I changed it, and this change is the 14th draft. Now, I feel that he and the other characters in the book are finally like 'humans'.Good people have flaws, and bad people also have humanity.Another key to the creation of martial arts novels is to have a strong storyline.Fiction is primarily about storytelling, so it's important to 'look good'.Even if the author has grand and profound truths to express, if the story is not good-looking, readers will throw it aside after turning two pages, but how can those great truths be seen, thought, and finally accepted by readers?

After grasping these two points, it is like a person who makes a large-scale clay sculpture. After erecting the wire skeleton of the clay sculpture, it is time to throw mud on it. The most difficult first "mud" to throw in the creation of a long martial arts novel should be the beginning. I was stuck four times on this first mound of mud.The first two times were in my 20s, when I was in college. At that time, I had good time, and I loved martial arts novels, so I started, but the manuscript paper was torn up and thrown away, and finally it was scrapped. It's the same this time. I just wrote the beginning, and I feel unsustainable.I had to stop writing and stared at the manuscript paper in a daze, but then I remembered the creative experience Lu Yao wrote when he finished writing "Ordinary World". The difficult problem: how to start? How to write a novel that is both wonderful and powerful, and can bring the whole article to a good beginning?

In the end, after throwing the manuscript paper all over the floor, Lu Yao made a very ordinary start. At the same time, he made the protagonist of the book, Sun Shaoping, appear on the first page. Everything is difficult at the beginning, and so is writing. This is the first group of notes of the symphony, which will determine the development of the whole melody. The so-called "beginning" of long-scroll works, according to my understanding, is mainly to solve the problem of "betrayal" of characters.Among the long works I have read, some are brilliant and some are clumsy.Worst of all is the "introduction" approach.Characters are passively introduced to the reader by the author. This kind of introduction is resume-like and abstract, and the author is like a wall between the reader and the characters, becoming a pure "announcer", and when introducing a character, other characters are put on hold. The relationship between characters and characters also has to be explained by the author.Readers will get bored after reading these lengthy resumes. In fact, all brilliant "entrances" should be within the movement of the plot.Readers should enter the "plot" from the very beginning, and the "appearance" of characters and the interweaving of character relationships should be natural, as if they were not deliberately arranged, and readers will accept all of these unconsciously in the process of art appreciation. From the very beginning, the author should hide behind the characters, behind the scenes of the stage, and let the characters go straight to the readers unobstructed and blend with them.

However, in a long volume with nearly a hundred characters, should all the characters appear as early as possible?Or do you want to hold back the appearance of certain characters? My mentor Liu Qing seems to have said that characters should come out slowly. But I have not quite the same opinion. For example, Yang Youzui (Yang Jiaxi), who is as important as Sun Shuizui (Sun Zhiming) in "The History of Entrepreneurship", only appeared for the first time in the second part. Obviously there is not enough "length" to complete this character. The question related to this is such an important character, what did this person do in the turbulent social life of the first Toad Beach? The appearance of this character is too abrupt.

In my opinion, in a long scroll all the characters should appear as early as possible so that there is enough length to complete them.Especially for some secondary characters, if they appear earlier, you can express them in different ways at any time, even though they can only flash in each part, by the end of the book, they may become a rich and complete image .Except for some main characters, most of the characters are completed by bit by bit description.Let them appear earlier, and there may be more plumpness. How to get as many characters as possible in as little space as possible? This is a big problem.A plot moment must be found. (Lu Yao - morning starts at noon)

So, one of my heroines appears on the first page, and the hero appears in the second chapter (the original manuscript, which should now be the first chapter). As the saying goes: A good beginning is half the battle. After the beginning is solved, the creation of the creation is like the light boat of Chaoci Baidi. The way to write the ending is to decide according to your own situation. Whichever paragraph or chapter you feel is more sure, you should write which paragraph first. And from the very beginning, I wanted to write a great tragedy. Therefore, I finished the whole book first, and at the same time I was most satisfied. It was the third and fourth parts, especially the ending of each character in the book.

Many upcoming characters are eagerly waiting for you to schedule a show to perform on stage. All the characters who are going to enter the river of the work, even if it is a very minor character, you can't ignore it lightly, but you must concentrate on it, and flow to the end with the total capacity including dead branches and leaves.end! My habit of conceiving is to start with the end first and ignore the starting point. For each character, especially the main character, where is his (her) end point? If the end point cannot be determined, it will be difficult to find their starting point, and it will also be difficult for you to grasp their inner flow during the entire running process of the book.Of course, the pre-designed end points will not be fully realized in the end, and the general trajectory of the characters' movements will constantly correct their final destinations; there are also some characters whose end points cannot be at the end of the book, and their existence should end in certain paragraphs.

Undoubtedly, the end point is not only in the sense of plot and characters, but more importantly, it is also the theme of the whole book. On this "end point", characters, plot, and theme are unified. The reason why it ends here is not just because the story just ends here.Even the most "casual" stream-of-consciousness novelist takes pains to stop abruptly. After finding the "end point", then, no matter from the counterclockwise or clockwise direction, it is possible to sort out all the criss-crossing channels; because at this time, you already know about all the twists and turns in this big network. The clues are where the knot will end up.At this time, you can even make these clues "messy" with peace of mind, so as to lead readers into the formation of "gossip", making them unable to judge the fate of characters and things until the end of the reading. If there is such a large layout, and it is possible to set up gully channels everywhere, then it will be difficult for readers to jump to the ending part of the book in a large span. There must be no broad flatness that allows readers to drive straight into it.It must make us have to turn every corner and stop to read carefully before we can pass... (Lu Yao--starts at noon in the morning)

After finishing the third and fourth parts, I came back to write the first and second parts. During this period, I encountered a lot of troubles in creation, mainly because I didn’t know which method to use to best write the paragraphs in my mind. For example, at the beginning of the second part (now it may be the end of the first part), Yin Yannian and Ziqing went to Xixia. I couldn't write, so I put it on hold for a long time.Yes, it is on hold. When I encounter a passage that I can't write, I will put it on hold. Time is the best teacher. He will always help you when you feel that you are at the end of the mountain, and let you suddenly see the light!

Now, the light boat I am driving is moving briskly forward, and a lot of mud has been thrown on the support, but I don't know that in the magnificent and beautiful Three Gorges of Literature, there are countless hidden reefs and dangerous shoals waiting for me on the long road ahead... Since it is the first time to write, the difficulties and problems encountered can really be measured. The first is the names of people. I really admire the fresh and connotative names in Jin Yong and Gu Long's books: Ren Woxing, Wang Yuyan, Lin Shiyin, Gao Jianfei, Huamanlou, Ximen Chuixue...but I grabbed a Ben, still at a loss, could only write and think. As a result, the names of some people in the book were changed four or five times. Since the first three drafts were all handwritten, it was a disaster. When I went to the Kunming newspaper to report on Ma Hua, an outstanding young man who graduated from Fudan University in Shanghai, who came to Yunnan as a volunteer and died in a car accident in the Yarlung Zangbo River, I was moved, sad, and disappointed, and I immediately changed Qin Guanquan to Ma Hua.In this way, I express my deepest respect and nostalgia for this great man!At the same time, the ancient Egyptians believed that as long as a person's name can be mentioned continuously by later generations, then this person can have eternal life! At that time, my manuscript was more than two-thirds completed. In order to change Qin Guanquan into Ma Hua, I turned over page by page and changed one by one. I was really out of breath. , What is my small gesture? The other names are a bit troublesome, but I won't repeat them one by one.Next, there are details that can be seen everywhere in the book. There is a saying that goes well: details determine success or failure! When I was writing this book, I had already decided that the age should be as vague as possible, but the details should be as real as possible.Just like that, and only in this way, can the whole book produce a feeling that is both ethereal and dreamy, but at the same time makes readers feel like seeing and hearing.Only in this way can I achieve the creative effect I hope to the greatest extent. For this reason, I have to go to the Provincial Library almost every day at noon. If time permits, I will go there again in the evening. I almost trot forward under the scorching sun. Fu Jueru, at this time, it is necessary to go to the city map, district map, bookstores of all sizes... When Yin Yannian was trapped at the bottom of the well, he chatted with Ziqing to relieve his boredom, saying that Patriarch Bodhidharma had been facing the wall in Songshan for 8 years. As I wrote this, I was not sure whether it was 8 years or 9 years, so I started running... I can't remember how long and how many miles I ran. Finally, I found it on my sister's bookshelf: 8 years! Similar examples, such as the Ganges sand, are too numerous to count, so I won’t list them one by one, so as not to disturb my fellow chivalrous friends and make my memory collapse. Alas, I thought this was the first dangerous shoal of the Yangtze River in literature, but who knows, this is just an insignificant grain of sand, and the real dark shoal is approaching! In a hurry to solve the problem of names and details, another, worse problem loomed in front of me like an impassable mountain: I can’t write any more!I was horrified to find that the manuscript was too rough to be seen, but I had already done it!Facing the manuscript paper, no matter how hard you rack your brains, you can't write a single word! Am I the material for writing? What I wrote, look at the manuscripts that have been piled up thickly, can people read them? The extreme doubt made me so frustrated that I wanted to give up, but I was unwilling in the end, so I asked my mother for help. It was not that she knew how to write, but that maybe a capable mother could help me find an editor for martial arts novels and help me. Look, are these things I wrote okay? Can people still read it?If not, can the editor give me some helpful suggestions and help? The poor mother immediately ran around in order to fulfill an illusory dream of her daughter. Finally, one day, she and a friend led me into the office of a leader of the Publishing Bureau.Heh, both the mother and the leader got the wrong idea. Both elders thought: I want to publish this book.Yes, of course I want to publish this book!Which author doesn't want his work to become black and white? But not now, not this moment.Once again, I realized that when there are different views on the same thing, what kind of ridiculous results will appear. This time I worked so hard to ask for advice, but in the end, of course, I returned without success. Since there is no teacher to ask, then rely on yourself.I skipped the paragraph that couldn't be written, and wrote other chapters, first bypassing this mountain. Facts have proved that my decision was correct at the time. Soon, as if by God, I successfully completed the chapter that stopped me in the first afternoon in one afternoon. The Finnish painter Vincent Van Gogh had a similar example to me: he started to draw, but soon doubted whether he was drawing correctly? So I walked for dozens of miles, holding my paintings to visit the home of a teacher who knew how to paint. When the teacher saw his paintings, he shook his head: the proportions were wrong, and the lines were also problematic. So I started to help him modify it, and then I would look at it after the modification: the proportions and lines were all in line with the norms, but the original charm in the painting was gone! Therefore, in the process of writing, you must have confidence in yourself, self-confidence is very important!Under the sun, no one is born to write, everyone is advancing in exploration, and because of the differences in personality, beliefs, education, life, and values, you must find someone who can teach you how to write and how to write. It is almost impossible to write well and at the same time meet your creative intentions. Therefore, at this time, it is very important to trust yourself. Amitabha, the first dangerous shoal has finally been bypassed, and how many more will there be in the future? In a state of madness, I completed the first draft of the book in only 10 months, with 1.2 million words. Then with the great help of my sister, I bought a computer and typed all 1.2 million characters on the computer for the convenience of revision. Then, I started six years of 'revision' work at the speed of one chapter a day. 39 chapters, once more than a month, with 6 revisions in a row.But no matter how I change it, I feel something is wrong, but I am at a loss as to what is wrong.God bless, at this time of sorrow, the savior came. By accident, I borrowed two literary review books from the provincial library--Wang Binbin's "One Hush and Three Sighs on Literature", Li Jianjun's "The Times and Enemies of Literature.Wang Zhu focuses on the big picture, emphasizing the contemporary nature of literature, the theme, structure and ideological quality of the article... Li Zhu focuses on the details, taking some famous works and analyzing them word by word, and studying these works. flaws and deficiencies. After reading these two books carefully, I woke up from a big dream!Although these two books do not comment on martial arts novels (I don’t like them), the criticisms and corrections of those famous works by the two teachers seem to be all about the shortcomings of my book! Personal feeling: Although there are different types of literary works, such as romance, martial arts, detective, adventure, fantasy, etc., some of them are common. In this way, the mistakes that authors make when writing are common. At that time, my sixth draft had been changed to Chapter 20. Afterwards, I took these two books as the revised 'Bible' and revised them bit by bit. It felt great. It's as if I knew that my works were sick and had symptoms, but I didn't know the cause? It is impossible to prescribe the right medicine and treat it.But now that we know the cause of the disease and how to 'cure' it, it will be much easier to be caught off guard. But even so, I have revised as many as 14 drafts of "Yuan Mie Chang'an". For 6 years, in addition to eating, sleeping, working, housework, and taking care of children.Almost all of it was spent on this book, which was deleted from 1.2 million words to more than 800,000 words, and it still feels redundant. After the guidance of Mr. Qiuyu, the editor of martial arts stories, and Director Chen Jian, I grasped the key of "modification" and really made it handy. Looking back on the past 6 years, I feel a lot of emotion. The reason why I write this series of articles today is to hope that fellow heroes will not make the same mistakes as me again, and stop taking so many wronged roads like me. Of course, the way of literary creation varies according to one's background, personality, education, and views on life and the world. The above is a lot of miscellaneous things, after all, it is just my own experience. It is not a truth that is universally applicable, you chivalrous friends can just laugh it off after reading it, but you don’t have to take it seriously.lest I misunderstand my children and cause harm! Greetings again to all chivalrous friends, and hope that in the future on the road of martial arts creation, we will encourage each other, spur each other, and move forward together!
