Before expressing our thanks, a few questions of background.The village of Shadbagh is fictitious, but somewhere in Afghanistan, such a name may actually exist.Even so, I never set foot in it.Abdullah and Pari's nursery rhymes, especially "The Sad Little Fairy", were inspired by a poem by the late and eminent Persian poet Forough Farrokhzad.Finally, the title of this book was inspired in part by William Blake's beautiful poem "The Nanny Song".
