Chapter 7 Hanshan, a monk who has disappeared for thousands of years

On such a peaceful early autumn afternoon, listening to "The Monk in the Cold Mountain" with a far-reaching artistic conception, the sound of the piano is shallow, with every string and rhyme, just like the breathing of every plant and tree in nature. The autumn water is clean and the bluegrass is faint. At this moment, no matter how impetuous the mind is, it can be calmed in an instant.Following the rhythm of Qingyuan, we seem to realize it suddenly, let go of our obsessions, bid farewell to this colorful mortal world, bid farewell to those we once loved, bid farewell to those we once complained about, and go to the deep mountain Zen forest to look for monks in the misty clouds.

The ancient moss is silent, and a deep mountain path leads to the Bodhi Dojo. There are monks holding Zen sticks, celestial beings playing chess in the clouds, woodcutters chopping firewood in the mountains, and herbal farmers picking herbs with a hoe.And we, who are absent in this mountain forest, are always greedy for the bustling fireworks in the world of mortals. Every time, we are the ones who come late. The quiet mountains and forests have stored the backs of too many eminent monks practicing, but we are listening to the music, and we are looking for the legendary eminent monk of the Tang Dynasty, Han Shan.

"Oneself hides from the cold mountain, raises one's life and eats the mountain fruit. What to worry about in life, let this life go by fate." What is it that can make a mortal willingly put down the wealth and honor in the world, live in a high-walled courtyard, and live in the mountains and wild forests, not Eat delicious food, but eat vegetables, roots and fruits? Can you throw away wealth and honor, forget about joy and sorrow, let everything go according to fate, don't force, don't be persistent, regard life and death as trivial matters, and regard honor and disgrace as clouds and smoke? This is Han Shan's poem, so calm and detached that it makes the world ashamed of his obsession.Reading the name Han Shan seems to be more familiar than reading any scriptures.Han Shan's poems may have been neglected by the world. After the 1950s, his poems sprung up like mushrooms after a spring rain, and became popular all over Europe for a while. The poem describes the various forms of the world, the mountains and forests, promotes the reincarnation of cause and effect, and transforms into nothingness. The profound Zen and indifferent artistic conception revealed make the world obsessed. Therefore, he even won a higher reputation than Li Bai and Du Fu.

Is Han Shan's calm and calm state due to his innate Buddha nature?Regarding his life experience, there is such a record: "Han Shan is Yang Wen, the son of Yang Zan, a descendant of the Sui royal family. Because of the jealousy and exclusion of the royal family and the influence of Buddhist thoughts, he escaped into Buddhism and hid in Hanyan of Tiantai Mountain." Han Shan Born in a wealthy family, he was full of talents. When he was young, he went to Beijing to take the scientific examination as usual. The reason for his failure was deeply sighing. It is said that there were only four criteria for the selection of officials in the Tang Dynasty, namely, great stature, correct speech, elegant calligraphy, and excellent arts and sciences. However, Han Shan's articles and calligraphy are very romantic, but it is a pity that he is short in stature and not good enough in appearance, so he has always lost his name to Sun Shan.

After that, he failed several times, so that he returned to his hometown shamelessly, and was stranded in Chang'an, destitute. The glorious Tang dynasty could not satisfy a man's lofty ambitions. The dream of Chang'an was broken, the future was hopeless, and the human feelings were cold. His life fell into a desperate situation. In the end, with painful memories, he wandered around the world and went to the mountains to live alone. Han Shan's dream is like broken blue and white porcelain, gorgeous and decadent. In the final analysis, Han Shan lives in seclusion in the mountains and forests, which is also an escape from the world. He was driven to nowhere by the secular world, and he just wanted to find a peaceful pure land where he could live with his tired body and mind. But it is undeniable that Hanshan has the roots of spiritual wisdom, and the Buddha only saves people who can be saved in the world. He has a predestined relationship with the Buddha, so the world will try every means to send him to the Buddha. Not only to save him, but also to save more people in the world.

The affairs of the world are like a chess game, the Chu River and the Han Dynasty are clearly separated, the winner is the king, and the loser is the bandit. In this world, no one dares to stand under the bright sky and say that in this life, he will only be a winner, not a loser. No one dares to say that he is absolutely innocent - a secular dye vat will not favor anyone.Han Shan is an eminent monk in the Buddhist world, but he is also a loser in the world of mortals. It is always difficult to have both in the world. When one door is closed, you can only open another door, and in the new world, start all over again.Reality is a sharp knife, and the blood-stained edge will never have mercy.

In fact, Han Shan just tasted the warmth and coldness of life earlier than us.On the way to Lingshan, he walked in a hurry, but also walked freely. And we, trapped in the net of dust, are obsessed with being slaves of the world of mortals, thinking that this is to repay the worldly gift of fertility, and thinking that this is not a betrayal of the true fleeting time.Perhaps imprisoning oneself in the web of fate is a kind of obsession. Are you benevolent when you forcefully tear open the net and drive out the weak souls?Only when a person is willing to do something, your support is a good deed, otherwise, it can be regarded as cruel.

As a generation of eminent monks, Han Shan's seclusion and realization are penetrated through the illusion of time and personal wisdom. The lotus platform can be a spirit, which can transform his real body and make him a Buddha. The lotus platform can also be a cocoon. Some people sit on it and it will only become tighter and tighter.Maybe one day, we really get our wish. When we arrive at Lingshan, smelling the cold fragrance of old sandalwood all day long, will we think of the temperature of fireworks in the secular world? Han Shan's poems are not empty sentences, and the words are dusty. His heart has entered the realm of Bodhi and is sealed by the Buddha. Therefore, he has no intention of avoiding everything in the world. His poems have the meaning of detachment, negative thoughts of reclusiveness, and sighs about the coldness of the world. If he hadn't been a hermit in the mountains, and hadn't grown up in the star-studded era of the Tang Dynasty, perhaps his brilliance would have left behind in the dazzling poetry world.Although he was unknown during his lifetime, his fame spread far and wide after his death, so that a famous temple outside the city of Suzhou in the Tang Dynasty was named after him.Today, as long as you go to the Hanshan Temple outside Gusu City, you can see his statue, enshrined in the temple by incense, Hanshan holding a lotus branch in his hand, wearing clothes and breasts, laughing and amusing. That peaceful gaze makes people want to let go of distracting thoughts, look at the Buddha quietly, and smile.

"The sun and the moon are like passing rivers, and time is caught in fire by stones. Let the world move, and I will sit on the rocks." Unintentionally, the sun and the moon are like a stream, fleeting, and time is like electricity, flashing by.In the clouds and smoke of the years, looking back at the past, a thousand years is like a day.Entangled in the mist of the present world, sitting and watching the world of mortals, one day seems like a thousand years. But Han Shan said, let the heaven and the earth move, I sit on the rock, listen to the mountain wind, the gurgling of the clear spring, the clear sky and the peaceful life. This is a fascinating realm. We have always thought it was far away, but in fact, it is right beside him.

There have also been feelings, righteousness, attachments, and reluctance.Han Shan threw all these into the pot when the world was unprepared, picked all the cold branches and cooked them, and drank them all in one gulp, reaching this ultimate state. He regards loneliness as tranquility, wandering as his destination, and a branch of lotus is all he has in this life.Such a legendary figure, a generation of famous monks, did not even leave his real name, just quietly walked through the millennium, and lived under the name Han Shanzi.
