Now, step back and talk about Jane Austen.I cannot say that she is the best novelist in England, that crown belongs only to Dickens, in spite of his exaggerated, vulgar, nagging and sentimental prose.Dickens is a very great writer, what he described is not the world we are familiar with, he recreated a world. In that world, there are suspense, dramatic plots, and humor, making people feel a complicated and noisy life.As far as I know, the only one who can do this is Tolstoy.Dickens used his infinite vitality to create a series of characters, all-encompassing and unique, with strong vitality in their characters, trembling—no, trembling is not appropriate—disturbing life.

Dickens narrates his complex and unbelievably complex story with a beautiful technique that perhaps only his peers can fully understand and appreciate.Jane Austen is perfect.I admit, but she writes narrowly, always telling stories of country gentlemen, clergymen, and middle-class people. But her insight into characters is unparalleled. No one can match her delicate and rational portrayal of the characters' hearts. She doesn't need my praise at all. Here I just want to talk about one of her skills: the stories she writes happen in such a reasonable way that people think everything is as it should be.Although on the whole, there are no big ups and downs in her story, and there are no sudden dramatic plots, but you can't help turning page after page (although I can't understand why), eagerly would like to know how things develop. This is the most important gift a novelist has, and nothing can be done without it.In this regard, I don't think anyone can compare to Jane Austen. The only thing that confuses me now is which of her novels should be included in my reading list.My personal favorite is Mansfield Park.Although the heroine is a pompous heroine and the hero is a pompous jerk, I don't care, because this book is full of wisdom and warmth, and it is a masterpiece of ironic humor and careful observation.
