Chapter 10 third quarter

Dodging traffic, they crossed Fleet Street, and the gray exterior of the Bucks loomed before them. Teri whistled appreciatively as they approached the door. "Wow, what an amazing place, isn't it?" Rhett looked skeptical. She glanced at the top of the old building. "Maybe. Don't you have a tavern like this in your hometown?" "Tavern?" Teri smiled. "I like that word. You have such a British accent." Rhett felt his cheeks heat up.She turned her head towards the door. "Come on, let's see what the men are doing." Red pushed open the freshly painted door and stepped into the bar area, scanning the crowd. "We may have to send a search party in order to find them."

"Maybe they're with the manager now?" Rhett pushed his way through the crowd of happy Sunday afternoon drinkers and fought his way into the bar, reaching into the inner pocket of his coat to pull out his police badge. She stood on tiptoe, trying to get the attention of one of the bar staff. "Boss?" Rhett turned and saw Teri pointing through the jumbled crowd, pointing to a far corner where the quiz machine flickered in the dimness, illuminating the excited faces of Tyler and McKenzie, beers in hand. Rhett glared at Teri, his lips drawn into a thin line. "Let's go."

Teri followed in Rhett's footsteps.Apologizing sourly to the drunks who made way for them. "Are you guys busy this afternoon?" Rhett shouted, over the din of the bar. Two pairs of eyes, like two rabbits startled by the headlights of a car, suddenly turned in Rhett's direction. "Boss?" Rhett held up a hand. "I thought you'd be more sensible, Jim." "This is our last stop, boss. Really. We've been busy all day. This is our first drink." "Yes, that's right. And I am the Queen of Sabah." Taylor and McKinsey looked mortified.

Rhett sighed. "Huh? Did you find any clues?" Taylor elbowed McKenzie. "Yes, boss. Not much, but it might be a leading clue." He fumbled for money in his pocket. "I'll buy you both a drink, and then I'll tell you about it." "What example does this set for others?" Rhett glared at Taylor. "Does this leading line require you to behave today?" "There's nothing you can't let go, boss," McKenzie said. "Okay! I'll see you both tomorrow morning." She turned to Tyler, pointing to the beer in his hand. "By the way, Barry, today's overtime binge ended 15 minutes ago. We don't want to catch you drinking while on duty, do we?"
